In downtown Toronto or GTA, you need to be a Sardarji or a Somali(from Somalia) to drive a Taxi!!! just kidding....
If you have G class license with a clean record and good road sense, you can get a job to drive taxi in GTA.
guu_canadien... maybe being a senior member, you should do your homework rather than just \"shooting the sh*$\" on the forum. Getting a cab drivers licence is a big deal. There is a mandatory course that you need to do after spending $442 and also, it is very interesting to note that there is a 15 month waiting period just to get in the course!! This is a 17-day rigorous course which is followed by a 3-hour exam that you have to qualify with an overall course grade of 80%. You have to also complete a First Aid/ CPR course.

Please read up in future!!

" or a Somali(from Somalia) "
Somalis are from Somalia just like Egyptians from Egypt or Canadians from Canada. Hello.
For Alberta i think it is a Class 4 Licence. In Ontario it maybe Class G.
You will have to check with your province, city Canada Transport department. Seems like they have their own rules which differs.
Basic requirement may be..Provincial Driver's Licence (Full Class "G" Licence), fingerprinting, photographing, English Assessment Exam, Taxi/Limousine Driver Training course.
If you are in Mississauga the requirement is:
Taxicab Driver (By-law 142-89, as amended)
The requirements for any applicant to receive a Taxicab Drivers Licence are as follows:
- Meet Canadian Language Benchmark 7 (listening, speaking)*
- Valid Ontario Drivers Licence (Class G or better)
- Current Ontario Driver's abstract
- Completed police criminal record search
- Interview with the licensing manager
- Medical Report from physician identifying that the applicant is physically capable of performing the duties.
- Letter of employment
- Defensive Driving Course*
- Sensitivity Training Course*
- Taxicab Drivers Training Course*
- Taxicab Drivers Exam*
*The courses and exams are provided through the City of Mississauga. Each driver applicant will be enrolled following submission of an application and all initial fees are paid. The fees due upon submission of the application are currently $439.07.
