Hi
While this is not a reply to the previous desi's query, it is linked which is why I have written on this thread
We have landed April 2009 and my husband plans to visit Toronto next moth for about 10-12 days. In that time he wishes to apply for a DL. He has driven in the Middle East(Dubai) for almost 10 years and wishes to apply for atleast the G2 by doing the written test and the exit road test. Please can you let me know if he can complete this in 10-12 days?
Thanks!!

I doubt if it can be done in 10-12 days. He can give the written test on first day as it is kind of walk-in. Only if he is lucky he may get the appointment for road test within 2 weeks time frame. he can try though in various test centers, who knows when luck strikes.

My advice will be to talk to one of the driving school / or individual who provides driving training, they get the appointment fixed in lesser time. (actually they catch up the spot of cancelled appointments ). YOu might have to attend a class or 2 with them for sure or else pay extra money for that. but it will be worth as date of issue of license counts a lot in the long run when insurance amount is haggled over.

BTW - in my case I had 10 yrs driving exp. in India then one year in US but still had to give written for G1 and road test for G2 and settle on G2 and pay hefty insurance for my car.
my US driving license did not get an exchange for G becuase it was less than 2 years old at that time. Indian driving experience (no matter how many years) counts and adds only one year to your G2 experience, with that within one year of issue of G2 you can take G license road test. this is in Ontario..in other provinces rules are different.

Good luck !

thanks for your response.....however my hubby's licence is from UAE I guess that would be easier then to attempt the road test... however thanks for the tip for the appointment! Thats something to be looked into for sure!
Also the "walk in" test...is there any manual for this?

Thanks again for your help!
