Hi
I am a Graduate student in Canada and presently I donot have suffiecient points for applying for immigration but I am working full time as research assistant for the last 8 months and have the letter from my supervisor and H.O.D stating this fact.

I will have sufficient points in 4 months, my question is:

can I apply now? as time required to get file number is 2 months and I cannot get refusal in 4 months and after 4 months I can update my application.

my second question is:
a person should have sufficient points when he applies or when his file is reviewed??

Please reply soon as I have to apply in a day or two.

Regards
Pankaj Khanna

Pankaj,

As far as I know, you have to have the pass-mark of atleast 67 points at the time of submitting your application. Start working now on getting your application together as it takes a long time to get it done.

No, you cannot apply now, you will have to wait for those 4 months. But during this time just work on getting the important documents ready like the police certificate, birth certificate, work experience ref letters from all the employers you've ever had and try to link them to the NOC codes so that there are no differences in job classification and you can claim points easily. If you have a relative in Canada, it will be a good idea to notarise their photo copies as also those of your parents/siblings etc in order to establish relationships officially. Collecting and arranging for these documents in itself takes a long time. So start now.

To answer your question: A person has to pass the 67 points at the time of submitting the application. Note, that they go by dates so if you send in application adding points for work experience which you have not completed but which will be completed in 4 months, you might face delays. You may also want to rely on the advise of others in this forum.
This info is to the best of my knowledge. However, if you further wish to discuss you can call me @ 510-610-8207. Usually I'm available after 4pm PST.

All the best

Thanks for the reply, I have already collected all the documents and completed all the forms. I called Immigration canada and they told me that you should have sufficient points at the time when the application is being reviewed and given the present situation that cannot happen in the next 4 months as it takes more than 2months to get file number.

secondly my employer clearly states that the duration of my contract is 1 yr with the possibility of renewal out of which 8 months have already passed so I think, I can take this chance because If I wait and the points are increased again to 75, I will be screwed.

if you can add something to this reply, please do so.

regards
pankaj
