Hi All,
I am a PR since June 04 and currently in USA on H1. I have been reading the discussions on this forum for a while. Now that I have gone through some of your opinions about the entire situation it seems to me that,
- People have developed a negative opinion and thinking on the \"so many\" issues they are facing with Job less ness etc that they are now not at all in a position to try out anything that might benefit over a long run.
I have had several discussions with many intellectuals in Canada and really good and well settled people in Canada and found the following as the main reasons for this kind of unrest among desis out in Canada.
The Vicious cycle starts right from here;
1. 95% of Desis who seek Immigration move (Land in) to Toronto/GTA only.
2. This obliviously erodes the available jobs in each of our/your eligible categories
since the Demand / Supply curve goes way negative that it is impossible for the
Govt to do anything given such a huge GAP.
3. This causes more desperation and people then sought to any jobs for very
survival and end up in Hard Jobs ( \" Labor Jobs\" like working in GAS stations /
stores etc etc.
4. This means that the desis who get into this situation are now loosing their very
own skills and interest as well to do anything better to improve it and a common
feeling they develop that \"Chalta hai \", I am happy where I am kind of attitude.
4. Then the next issues - People who start making some money and even are able to
save a buck or two - FALL into the hands of the Hungry MORTAGE BROKERS who
manage everything in getting you a House/Flat /Condo on a high mortgage rate
and with all that Blue promises Desis get into their trap. of course they acquire a
property. No doubt it is a good thing, BUT how many have thought is it worthwhile
to do so and are they sound enough to afford that? NONE.
5. Now starts the cycle again, keep paying mortgages, high costs of maintenance and
all these out of your manageable income. People even do two jobs to cope up
with this situation. Bottom line at the end of the month they have 0 in the bank.
6. This situation leads to a mental state where you are desperate but have no time,
energy, resources to think and do any better. DO not have time to do any
certification which could improve improve your skills etc.
7. Then starts the excuses we did not get a job because of \"No Canadian
Experience\".
8. Has anyone ever thought of this? We are form a different place/country and
culture, who come into a totally new place/country expect the same situation we
had back home right from day one? WHY? And WHAT is the BASIS?
The simple question is why should some one trust you?
9. IT is quite oblivious that NO ONE in the whole world would adopt you or trust you
just like that without your skills being tested /proved to them. What I mean to
say is why should some one Trust you or your skills acquired in a different place
under a totally different setup, atmosphere and system. To get into their system
we must learn their system and then prove our skills this is the only way out.
10. We all know that our working culture Back home is entirely different than that
of Canada as we see now. These people are more systematic and professional in
their very approach in all respects of their lives. Including working culture.
They have very solid system in place for \"EVERY KIND\" of job. And hence they
DO NOT expect us to get into the highly systematic world right from the word
GO. And so is the rejection at many places.
11. The solution to this is;
--- Prove your skills / expertise in respective areas by working in a smaller job in
the same field of your expertise. They expect and we should also start from
scratch when we are in a totally new world.
Take examples of Doctors they work here for free upto three years and pass
several exams to come to the standards of American /Canadian systems.
Similarly the case of Engineers they too have to go through several licensing
programs etc. ion order to get upto the speed with their Canadian / US
counterparts.
So what I want to say is how many of you have done this? NO home work, but we
expect more
Another issue is why all of us are in GTA area only when Canada is vast land and there are many other places where you can have a reasonably better life than GTA.
I am writing all these with an intention of creating an awareness of the current world order and there by help ourselves and our communities.
I AM expecting only serious people's comments here NO JOKES PLEASE and NO foolish negative talks please. IT is your life, think how you can make it happen rather than talk wrong out of your desperation which is understood.
Hope I am not hurting anyone's personal feelings but I would like to take this opportunity to do something for all which might lead to a more success in our lives.
Thanks
It's an excellent outlook. However it's difficult to handle all alone, while somethings like studying etc , handled in an individual level, moving out of GTA etc needs community backup.
Its right that most Immigrant lands Tornto/Vancover.
But is there any one on this board who can suggest some other cities where one can go ? and can also have some community help etc..
Thanks
hi,
even i think there are many places , other than toronto to work & live in
i got aor in jan.'04, so i guess i have enough time to research an appropriate
area in canada ! i'm sure all senior desis will help me & others who are in the
same boat!
deepak
Good
Atleast I did one thing right . Landed in Vancouver instead of Toronto /GTA and my wife and me have good IT jobs after a struggle for about 1 year .

We will find a way or we will make one
O my bad... whenever naudurivsm mentioned IT, I kept on replacing with I.T. (Information Technology)... but then I guess most of the times, he is just stressing 'it' by uppercasing.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts
