well, i`m 2 mnths old in canada now.
not bad, i`ll say.
not bad in terms of how we`ve done. as family and professionally.
still finding our feet here.
it`ll take some time till i say we`re settled here.
but that`s obvious !
one thing i notice and i`d like some comments about.
of many indians i met here, either old or new, i find that in order to fit in, they hav somehow bcome embarrased to be identified as indians.
i do not mean that all of us wear "im indian badge" on our shoulders, but are u all still proud of where u came from while being happy and proud canadians?
just wanna know !
Hi Satish
Nice post.
I have not observed the same. But i feel the people are trying to tune themselves to the demand or the labor market of this country and tryto adjust.
My observation of this country is that only some IT guys and that having generalised skills in Java, .NET, VB, System admin etc have got in respective field rest all struggling to get into the mainstream doing odd jobs, blue collar job etc etc. so could be reason of hiding their indian identity.
But some are doing well even in blue collar job.
The engineers of india in Mechanical work as CNC machine operator, the Electricals and Instrumentation engineer work as Electrician and making 70K.
Some even after 3 years are confused what to do. Should they go back India or not?
thanks dips,
listen to ur hrt.
hear it speak to u.
what is imp to u?
what keeps u happy?
r u happy doing what ur doing and being what u r and whr u r?
wld u be happy someplace else
and when u introspect, dig deep and search for answers
i think we all know in our hearts what we want

you have to remember that a lot of Indians are not from India! Some are from Africa, some from Fiji, some from the Islands, some are from the US and also 2nd/3rd generation Canadians.
So I would not classify it as an embarrasment. It is a disconnect that is inevitable in generations that follow the immigrating parents. I'll tell you that Desi's are not the only who feel this disconnect, Italians, Portugese, Irish etc all feel that.
BV
well of course! has to be.
but for ppl like me who are like shudh indians, why do they become disconnected and it is more like a deliberate, well thought of, wanting to be one and not wanting to be identified as indians, thing ?
we all r here for reasons ranging frm money to exploration to western lure. right ?
as global as the world has been turning, we all have a free will to live whereever we want without losing sight of our past .right ?
i was just thinking if we can be proud of being indians just like the world is beginning to recognise the giantness of india.
and can we all contribute and project the vibrant india that lives in our hearts without being ashamed of leaving our country ?
