I am a Professional working in the areas of Employment Counseling for last five years. Presently, I am working with “ Council for Access to the Profession of Engineering”
( http://www.capeinfo.ca)" rel="nofollow">LINK “ which is an association of Immigrant Engineers. We have 912 members who are immigrant engineers from 54 countries around the world. Here is what their present employment status is.

Employment Status No Percentage

NOT WORKING 509 55.81 %
WORKING IN ANOTHER FIELD 261 28.62 %
WORKING IN ENGINEERING FIELD 142 15.57 %

The above survey outcomes have remained consistent since I started working on this project in 2004. We have realized that the major issue for Immigrant Engineers is “ Demand vs. Supply”, in addition to issues like lack of Canadian Experience and so on. The study by Ontario Society for Professional Engineers shows that each year around 10000 Immigrant Engineers land in Toronto itself. No city around the World can accommodate so many Engineers.

The question is “ What can be done to correct this horrible situation which has ruined thousands of Professional and Personal lives?”

Our association is asking these questions to Government. Though we know that the solutions will take it’s own time considering the pace of Government functioning and disconnects between Federal and Provincial government policies, we DO believe that our united efforts will bring the change faster.

I would like to appeal all the Engineers to join us in this mission by joining CAPE as a member. Please visit http://www.capeinfo.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK and Join CAPE. Without having a collective voice, we can not resolve any issue affecting us. CAPE website also gives you all the information about Engineering licensing and so on. You can ask us questions at

Do ur orginisation hv categorised this engineer (ie- software engineer, mech engineer, industrial engineer etc...).This can further reveal the dilemma of any particular field or position

hi dmv,
statistics u provided for immigrants engineers are really shocking . if u add locally qualified engineers to this tally i think more bleak scene will appear .
i thinks this study should be disclosed to the engineers applicants at the initial stages so that they can decide whether it really worth to move there.
have ur organistion conducted similar studies for foreign trained accountants who came canada as immigrants?

i am ca from india . i found it so tough to get a job in the line of accounting there. there i met indian ca's. new immigrants ca's are struggling to get a job in related field. however 3-4 years old immigrants found some related jobs . hardly any scope for saving.
any way results of study u mentioned are eye opener for any body who is interested in moving over there.
