Hi Friends,
I have been in canada for last one year and I am a permanent resident over here.My company wants to send me to u.s for training but they have no idea how to get visa for permanent residents.I need to be in u.s by 29th of Aug,and I have heard one cant get an appointment before 2 months. So,can someone please tell me what would be the best approach and which way it would be cheaper for the company-if i apply for a travel/visitor visa or a business visa. Please help asap.
Thanks
mick

I am moving this thread into the US section because this particular section is intended only for Canadian immigration questions directed at Mr. Massood

Now regarding your questions, what your company needs to do is show documents proving that you are an employee of that company (letter from your HR Manager would suffice).
Next they need to write a letter addressed to the consular officer stating the purpose of the trip, the duration, the travel arrangement, etc.

The letter should clearly demonstrate that the trip is for business purposes and is temporary and that you will not be working (i.e. earning income) in the US.
Also, the letter needs to state in clear terms that the company will be providing all expenses required for the trip.

On your part, you need to provide documentation proving you are a Canadian PR and have ties to Canada (bank accounts, family, home, etc.).

All other requirements as well as the forms are available on the US Consulate website.
Take the time to browse through that information and I think most of your questions will be answered.

Hope this helps.

Hi pratickm,
Thanks for that nice and informative information.I can provide all the documents you have specified but I just need to ask you one last question...and i.e when to provide these documents???Actually,my training has been schedule for the first week of september and the earliest visa appointment I am getting is 3rd October. So,should I get an appointment first for the 3rd of October and then send them a letter with all the documents you specified requesting them to give me an earlier
appointment or is there someway by which I can show these documents beforehand. Please respond to this question of mine...and I would really really appreciate it.
Thanks
Mick

P.S:I read "gone with the wind"..few years back..but still remember that quote very well...

You cannot send the documents to the consulate in advance.
You must take them with you during your appointment.

There is no way to send the documents in advance.
Also, there is no way to request an earlier appointment by contacting the consulate directly.
NVARS is an independent system and the consulate uses it for appointment booking.

I believe the consulate does give out immediate appointments in emergency situations, such as a medical emergency or bereavement.

But for business trip, there is no emergency appointment.

The only alternative you have is to book the earliest available appointment right now, and wait for a cancellation.
If there is a cancellation, you can book that appointment.

Note that in this case, you will have to pay the appointment booking fees twice - once for each appointment.

Yeah, it's one of my favourites, too.
It is funny how something that happened over 150 years ago is still so relevant today.
Each generation is fooling itself believing that they are doing something unprecedented, or something unique.

There is something that the company can do. A buddy of mine went to the states on business and the company got him an appointment in some way pretty quick (i think it was within a couple weeks). I dont have the details ...i'll give him a call and if i can get a hold of him today i will post what he says.
