Rightly said, Indian Immigrant !

Just because somebody is trying to make ends meet & doesn't like the system here, doesn't mean that you ask them to go out of Canada.

People try to put up their thoughts here to put up their perspective of things. If out of this, something good materialises (like Puru is trying to do) then it naturally helps everybody.

Thanks & regards.

Rajan.

I agree... If something is wrong with the system and people are feeling more hurt by it than helped, then steps should be taken to fix the administration. Not telling people to "get out".

It's true that you need hard work (like Duncan said) to persevere, but it should also be smart moves (as mentioned by regretably canadian)... You don't want to do hardcore labor if you went to school for medicine.

And it's not that people are not working hard enough to get their position of interest. Take medicine for example, there's only so many seats available each year and there's obviously more doctors aiming for them then there are seats available. That doesn't mean that you didn't study hard enough or work hard enough in hopes of acquiring them.

And let's not forget that interviewers DO tend to be sexist, racist and all other types of '-ists'. They're not ALL like that. But many people will swear by the fact that they've experienced this type of behavior.

The system is NOT perfect.

That doesn't mean you should say that it sucks big time or, "get out", instead of putting in your two cents towards getting it working for YOU.

When an immigrant comes from India as of today (with the current point system) it would be safe to presume that he would be well educacted with a good command over English and that he would have had a fair work experience in India. When he lands he may soon find that there is a ridge between his expectations and the reality. The reasons are very many which our active forum has been discussing over and over again with their own view points.
But, what I would request, that after all this "samudra-manthan" there should be some positive outcome.
Our senior desis have been relentlessly and unselfishly advising fellow country men on a varied lists of topics on this forum from housing to mortgages and all are also aware of the difficulties faced by a newcomer in this culturally different country.
It would be great to see if this Website could tie up with some media/newspaper (s) and be the voice of new immigrants in a very organized manner and voice out problems faced by new comers like opening of a new bank account, housing, job searching (in their near related field), to site a few.
I believe cribbing about things will not help anyone. We all know of the problems and most of us individually see those through eventually. But, surely these are frustrating events and moments in a new comer's life and if the forum can have its voice in a media/ a political or a financial platform, it can be a start point to positively and publicly addressing these problems in a REAL MANNER.
Regards,
Bhishma

(Will you agree then that 5% is an accurate number of people struggling? )

You also don't agree with this statement of yours.

Aren't we suppose to say what we see & experience? instead of going by website & newspaper calculations?? In last 10 years, I've seen immigrants struggling, frustrated...engineers, doctors, bank managers..& really you also know it is not only in case of Scarborough.

I have also seen Indians living happily in Mississauga & Brampton. I have also seen double of them going back to India & restarting their life.

I have seen people driving taxis have luxurious houses & drive 2-3 cars here in Canada. So it is not saying that people don't make money here.

But as I have said earlier, most of us come here, adjust to working in labour, taxi, lower level jobs & start making money by cutting down on costs & trying to save money instead of blowing it up like the whites or for that matter even some of us do.

Those of us who adjust to these jobs & accept the situation tend to be happy & make money, those who can't - they crib about it in Canadian Desi. Not everybody can go back to India, but those who stay not of all them are happy. This forum does serve a purpose of giving people a outlet for their frustration. Might upset a few people who don't like listening to other's problems. But to other people seeking to migrate, it also prepares them for the struggle ahead.

It does take a lot of struggle & guts to make it in Canada.

Thanks & regards.

Rajan.

Ok guys, with my experience now on this thread and in real life in Canada, I will say 40% of immigrants are unhapy and not 90%, as most are very well establish and doing well in their fields. but now as I can't change the way they think of this country and me . I have some plans to implement in another 3-4yrs, for all my fellow desi brothers. and because I love Canada and am well settled so I don't mind helping others who are strugling, but for that I need one promise from everyone, that stop making racist remarks on canada, whites, and as mr ginni said "illetrate punjabis". and start living like brothers and plz don't make this country another hell (where people are distinguished by their religions, casts and color) by making such remarks.

I had analysed the situation well and am thinking of taking it very seriously. but that I will talk out later in a new thread as this is meant for new immigrants, so I am writting some points they can consider doing in their 1st yr of struggle:-
1) most of the desis u will find in this country are very helpfull, but u may find some who can demorolized u in initial struggle and some can even go upto fooling u or maybe looting u in one way or other. so plz use ur mind before doing anything likefor ex:- applying for SIN, driving licence, medical documents, u can search internet, make a call to their offices instead of paying anyone for this stupid service. and if u know how to read and write then plz fill the forms urself or ask for someone in office as people are very friendly here and all u need is JUST A SMYLE ON UR FACE to ask for help from anyone.
2) don't divide people here on basis of their job work, religion or most importantly culture. lets take it this way, if u see a girl hanging out with a guy then plzzzzzzzzzzzzz don't pass any remarks on them (especially who are singles) I have also seen good no of new immigrants staring liko OWLS to girls so try no to do these cheap things. and try to change ur opinion on such issues. and second thing u will find the 2nd generation of immigrants are more satisfy with their lives then the one who are still struggling. and try learn from day to day experiences in this country. and learning has no age, and it doesn't matter in this country from whom u r learning. in short "u should be a good learner"
3) most importantly this is for those who after 5-6 months living here start loving this country and had make up their mind of living here permanently. and if they people have some land or property back home.
they can think of buying a new house here, trust me it will ease lot of pressure from ur shoulders. property rates are increasing here at good pace, and if u had make up ur mind to live here permanently then their is no need of having that house or land back home. see that will not only ease the mortgage or rent tensions but can also bring an extra income for u, like u can give that basement to someone if u wish. mostly people live in greater toronto area as u can access any part from their also and house costs are less.
4) if u r proffesional, then u may need to upgrade ur studies to canadian standards (Canadian standards of education is more practical knowledge and less bookish thing). and trust me there is no harm in getting some loan and doing some program here. it will help u in long term.

i have to go now, so will post rest of fundas in spare time.

continuing from my last post.........

5) gays and lesbian population, see guys this is another thing u have to really look after. canada is a open country and supports the idea of gays and lesbians marriage (recently introduce a law). so if u find anyone indulge in such activities don't react strangely or close ur eyes. here general meeting of two persons is only kept to firm hand shaking so if u r a guy please don't hug a guy or another desi if u r not a gay. as u maybe seen in that category if do more then hand shake while meeting a guy.

6) apart from office jobs u can also opt for police jobs, fireman posts as their is no age limit here for joining such posts. minimum age is 18. u need to pass a writen and a medical exam for this. and u should be in a good shape. so all those who got fat, need to burn it. a tough task.......
