The one that was opened recently - The food was the less than usual quality and the worst is the service.. They have all part-timers who don't even know anything about the dishes. There is nothing wrong in having north Indians work in south Indian restaurants as long as they are briefed about the dishes. How can they advise the customers whether it is spicy or not when they themselves don't know anything abt it ??
The service is happazard and not only they take so much time but also serve you yr next table orders !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope they improve !!!!!!!!

I thought the food was okay in quality. But then, I am not a south indian. I thought the atmosphere and ambiance were good. However, the service really really sucked! I don't know if they are part-timers or not, but they seemed to be falling over each other. I am used to dealing with one host and one server in a restaurant. During my visit, I had one person direct us to the table, a second person take our order, two other people deliver the food, finally two other people handle the transaction. Total 6 different servers. Not good cause nobody knows who ordered what, nobody knows where your creditcard is. etc.
They need to look at this!

We ordered 1 appam + 2 dosas. One dosa came in 50 minutes other after 1 hour 10 minutes and appam never came for my son. When asked several times they kept on telling it is comming and lastly owner checked it and found the order note on the floor. She said oh! it just fell down and we will discount 10% for you.
When asked what will you do if you were in my shoes, she replied that I will never come again!!!
Extremely rude and no shame to say this to a customer.

Similiar thing happened to us when we went to the Udipi Palace (or Place ??) on Gerrard a year or two ago. It had newly opened. We placed the order and the food didn't make it for atleast 30 mins. People came in after us, and got their food before ours. It seems the guy just left our order somewhere. At the end they apologized and gave us a 100% discount (yes 100%). I felt bad and paid him around $10. Now everytime I go there I get VIP service.

CHENNAI CHEF @ Kennedy -Steeles serves really tasty southindian dishes, at reasonable rates restaurant, run by a family I have found it extremely good. I have tried all the restaurants mentioned above, I found this one serving value for money.
Must try, for any one looking for a tasty south indian dishes.
