Ok..here we go....

As promised, i conducted a dry run to test my theory of by-passing taxis to airport.

1) It takes 20 minutes by TTC bus from my Apt in Scarborough to get to the nearest subway station at Scarborough town center.

2) It took me a good 40 minutes to reach the last Subway stop at Kipling..If any of you saw a desi on todays subway train with the look of a \\\\' deer in the headlights \\\\', you know who it is....:D

3) from the kipling station, there seems to be a non-stop direct service to the airport called \\\\' airport rocket \\\\'..which takes you to all the 3 terminals..
in good 30 minutes..

on the whole it takes about 1 hr to 1.5 hrs to get to the airport at a cost of 2.50$!!!

so...ladies and gentlemen of the desi kind..:D , TTC travel to airport is possible and look forward to all your experiences..

Thanks all for the great discussion and ...keep it flowing:cheers:

hi sennappa,
you did not talk about the luggage. you canot bring in 4 big suitcases into the TTC bus (i am not sure if it will even enter the doors).
what will happen to people like me with a new born (4 months) 4 suitcases and 2 bags?
if any of you know of good van service on 24th dec. afternoon please post or PM to me.
thanks

hi tamilkuravan,
please refer to my original post about option#2..

1) you can drive your own car to the airport along with your luggage, wife and baby in car seat and drop them off at the entrance or park your car and check-in the luggage.

2) then you will drive your car back home..lock and park your car.

3) take TTC to airport as described above...

4) on your way back from india. please bring me a small replica of taj mahal....
just kidding!! :D :D

And I suppose the trip to the airport with the wife and child and going back home is neither included in monetary cost (forget about agony - I presume you are totally immune to your family's problems), nor in the time that you spend (you would still like to think that you took only 1.5 hrs while you would take much more than that - and may be take an extra half day off from work, which again you are not including in the cost)

In my view, without taking in the opportunity monetary cost (the money you would have earned had you not spent time in dropping off the family, and then going back by bus - which in my view would be a good 4-5 hrs in all after you lock the doors to your apt/house the first time), just driving your own car to the airport and back would be anywhere about $40 to 50. Bear in mind that driving cost is not limited to gas cost. In Ontario, if I am not wrong, the average cost of running a car per km is about 44 cents.

I think you have to use a filthier word.......even chepo does not fully justify the whole act.

Your location says GTA, so which part of GTA do you live in for somebody to answer your question. Say if you live in Brampton, it \"may\" be cheaper to find somebody locally rather than get somebody from Scarborough.

Unfortunately, most people do not consider this cost in their cost calculations. Chandresh, you are right in pointing out this.

Seenappa, I can understand that 50 dollars can be a lot for some people in Canada. Why dont you ask one of the agencies to give you an extra night of work (like armor, etc.) where you could make this extra 50 bucks, and travel in peace by hiring a taxi on the day of travel :-)
