"Settled" is like "happiness". It's all relative.

My suggestion, you should give it a try. Take a break of few months, land here and see the other side of Canada with your own eyes.
I can understand this could mean a really huge investment (financially). But I do not see any other way for you to have the real feel.

No matter where you ask, you will find 1000's of ppls suggesting you to migrate to Canada and equal quantity suggesting the other way.

Only you can decide what's better for you and your family.

Hi Ashbamor

I will say yes, Canada is the Land of Opportunities, Age is not the matter, whether 40 + or 50+, there are different kind of jobs available across the country.

If you are very specific about your career job, try out from India by sending an e-mail. See the responses and take a decision.

By the by what is your area of specialization? Did you apply on your own or through an immigration consultant?

Best Regards

.....whether 40 + or 50+, there are different kind of jobs available across the country......

Will you please specify these 'available' jobs.

......Did you apply on your own or through an immigration consultant?......

How does that matters?

I support the view of l5a.

It is not the age but the physical condition and the mental attitude. The second most important thing is not to dispose off everything back home and move here. You need something to fall back if things do not work out here. Secondly you would yourself know how hot is the real estate market back home in India. If you can hold on to your property(with proper security, so that encroachers do not take it away) it might be your bonanza for your retirement.

The advantage Canada will offer to you is that the retirement from active work force will be later than 65, if you are physically fit you could carry on. The real issue here is that if you have had a cushy 9 to 5 job back home and that too a desk job, where you have pushed papers it will be difficult for you to adjust initially for heavy manual labour jobs. The reason why many people from Punjab succeed here are that many of them are from agricultural back ground and are used to doing back breaking work in fields and they are able to switch over to back breaking jobs here in Canada. They are able to fit smoothly into the system.

While many of us who have never ever done labour jobs find it hard to fit in initially. This is where you need to be physically fit. As rightly pointed out you could be 25 and not physically fit while a person who is 50 could be very fast. I had a cushy desk job all my life and since last 2.5 years it has been hard work for me. The good news is that I've lost 5 inches off my waist and also lost about 35 pounds. I've never been fitter in my life than before. The way I look at it is that, you need to pay for a gym back home to get your physical fitness while in Canada is one whole Gymnasium which pays you to get yourself into shape.

You need to prioritize your goals, not to burn your bridges back home in terms of job, property and investments. Come here on a holiday which could be as short as 1 month or could extend upto 4 years(until Citizenship) look around and if you like it continue, if not you can always bail out.

The choice is yours!

Good Luck & God Bless !

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....

"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"

The one factor that I do not discard:
The older you get, the difficult it becomes to get used to a new culture.
This stands true for anything new.

My mother (aged, early 60's) and my lil cousine brother (age 7 yrs), both cannot ride a bicycle. Hav'nt tried learning it!
Both have equal willingness to learn it.

Hope you get my point.
