I was under the impression that the minimum period of visa is 6 months , but some one just got one for 3 months from delhi.
Can I have the clear picture , if one mentions a 3 weeks stay , does it mean they might give a 3 months visa
consider urself lucky if u get 3 month visitor visa. my bro came last year on visitor visa. they game him just for 15 days.

Everything depends on the discretion of the visa issuing officer and the visa issuing post. There's a lot of factors that go into consideration while reviewing the visa application.
The applicant's age, purpose of visit, employment and residence history in the home country, ties to home country, international travel history, etc etc.
For example, the first time I applied for Schengen visa for travel to Germany, they gave me a 9 day visa and I was only permitted to stay for those 9 days. Then I had to go back with additional requests since I had to travel multiple times to germany. The second time, I got a 1 year multiple entry visa with a max 90 day stay during every trip.
So, it all depends.

Hi, i saw this post regarding duration of visitor visa. Let me share my understanding of it. I called immigration people here in canada last month to enquire about the same since i had some queries. The result was:
When you get canadian visitor visa stamped on the passport, the date on the visa is the validity of the visa. I mean, you have to enter Canada before that date. It can be 10 days or 2 months or three months. Later on when you enter canada, at the immigration department, the visa officer asks you couple of questions regarding your purpose of visit, your stay and all that stuff. Based on your answers he may or may not stamp an expiry date of your stay. If he stamps an expiry date, that is the date before which you have to leave Canada. But if he does not stamp, then from the date you enter Canada, you can stay in Canada for 6 months irrespective of the date on your visa.
Let me put in other words. The date on your visa is the expiry date of the visa and the date which visa officer stamps on your passport at the time of entry in Canada is the expiry date of your stay in Canada in that visit.
Please correct me, if i am wrong
