Kind of combining two posts into one - about the movie as well as some unwelcome habits of audiences.

It is almost after one year that I watched Hindi movie. The last Hindi movie isaw was Rang De Basanti. I had a misfortune of sitting near a Gujarati lady. Not that I am stereotyping Gujarati or Desis, since I am a Gujarati myself. She came to movie with her husband and with another couple. So until the movie started - I was subjected to her continuous chatter. About how her husband liked to have a meal only of hummus on a pita bread and sald, and about the car lease being on verge of over and their options.

She had brought some food with her, and dropped all the tiny morsels on the floor. When I kind of sarcastically looked at her, she remarked to her friend, that it was OK to litter the theatre. So much for the Toronto litters campaign :( Why it is so hard to get rid of some of the bad habits???

Thank God, that after the movie started, she remained silent during most parts of the movie barring few exclamations. Also, the loud volume of Dolby sound system tend to mute the surrounding audience noises.

About the movie - It is certainly not a masterpiece. Mani Ratnam seem to have a very little idea of Gujarati culture and society. All Gujaratis are shown as typical stereotypes. I do not know why Sarita Joshi continuosly refers Abhishek as "Souten Ke Bete" - seems kind of stupid. Howeve, Abhishek refers to her as a "Dayan". So the relationship between them is unclear. The character of Vidya Balan seems unwanted - as if she forced Mani Ratma at gunpoint to include her in the movie. The movie also seems to make a mockery of Indian legal and judiciary system.

The highlight of the movie is excellent music by ARR. The songs "Mayya Maryem " & "Tera Bina" is excellently picturised. My fav song "Ai Hairate Aashiqui" keeps popping in background time to time. The only sucker is "Ek Lo Ek Muft".

The first portion of movie is really interesting, but second part becomes too dramatic. It is hard to believe that a character of Manoj Joshi would make fool of himself by exposing his business strategies. The only character I liked was of Roshan Sheth.

So not exactly a "paisa vasool" picture - but not a bad movie either. Good for one time

Meghal well luck you..I had a bengali couple sitting in the row behind us. Boy oh Boy ! She sounded as if she did not get to speak with anyone..and the best time for her was the movie.
Points she made :
- Cosmetics are so expensive in the USA..while she is in India she will go and shop for cosmetics
- Hair streaking is 70 USD !
and many more.

The movie was not a ManiRathnam movie.. It did not have the soul of a ManiRathnam movie. The songs did not have the soul of ARR+Gulzar (what a let down after Dil Se/Saathiya )

Vidya Balan was a waste...Ash was also a waste... Her makeup was so pathetic..she did not resemble a Gujju Ben at all.

The only redeeming grace :- the shots of Istanbul and those old-style dresses worn by Abhishek .. That part of the film was awesome (barring Mallika Sherawat)
