CD's,
I have been going through the response and would like to again state that all the incident that i have stated is absolutely true (I challenge Chandresh-if he is willing- to come with me and i will introduce them to these people)
I have withheld the name of the Desi restaurant to conceal my identity. Even if the person concerned is not a reader of CD, by disclosing the name of the Desi Restaurant, I may be actually ringing a bell to her friends , which i donot want to.
My questions were very simple in the post. I was just questioning the stupidty of her parents who took pride in sending their daughter to a dead beat desi restaurant while the whole world was proceeding in technology and while their parents were millionares. Couldn't they have atleast sent her to work in a Mac or a Tim? Why did they choose a dead beat restaurant which has a history of reliving the waiter of his/her tips, heating and serving stale food, unhygene working conditions and toilets , where even the top software engineers from USA come and try to pay the bill directly to the cashier etc.. What value can she ever learn from these dead beat desi restaurants?. These kind of restuarants normally employ illegals to work as servers. (Sankaracharya can give more examples as he did a case study of many dead beat desi restaurnats in the Mississauga area).
So that was my peeve. I can undertstand if their parents live from pay cheque to pay cheque but not if they are well to do and drive costly SUV's and own a software comany.
I canot answer as frequnetly as you guys (see my signature for reasons why) but i encourage you to think on these points.

OK. There may not really be a logic behind sending their kid to work in such environment or there could be. Options are (for argument sake)
1. They really do not have much idea what to do (You don't really need to be very smart to be a millionaire, God damn luck plays a substantial role in times)
2. Their kid doesn't really want to work in high tech field or any other similar field (as we're forced in our life back home, well our situation were different). Personally I know a friend who put his son to do Computer science just because he is a computer guy. Alas, his son is not at all happy and want to pursue his interests in Costume and Apparel business, I was truly amazed with his 2-3 years worth of research about patterns he has collected about the people interest in different regions, trend, financial statistics, import/export etc.., but you know what I feel pity that I can't help.
3. The kid and parents both might have interest to start a Restaurant business ( as you know once it works out well, it is a prestigious business, you don't just reap the dollars but quite good contacts. Food with an excellent ambiance and service inspires a lot. Learning from a restaurant might be the best option to study the customers, service, procurement, operations, loop holes what not. If I have such interest I wouldn't even mind involving self / family for a brief period for the sake of knowledge.

well teenage is very crucial as a lot of exploring is done at this age and parents need to be aware of subtle changes in their kids and be able to communicate with kids and discuss openly ..this may help them mould into good responsible mature adults.
As regards to kids being arrogant with their parents in public this is happening here more and more and sometimes it is embarrasing for us to see someones kids behaving that way but also a lesson to learn our kids could go that way to if not given enough time, care and support when they need it most ..
As regards to working in restaurants whether in desi or tims or anywhere else the exposure will be there and you possibly couldnot control it so dont let kids work but may be send them to volunteer in places where the chances of having right influence is more for ex ,this person TK is talking could easily employ his own daughter in his software company in a post matching her skills. it will help her earn her financial independence and parents could be sure of surroundings for her in the office ...well it may not be foolproof but it could be better than other options..unless the parents here want the girl to learn desi restaurant operations first hand and set up a chain of restaurants for her with all the money they have ..who knows ....
TK: Next time you speak with her, ask her if she has ever considered working for mcdonalds/Timmy's where there are opportunities for advancement, good working environement etc.
Its easier to persuade people with positives rather than avoidance of negatives. You may be in the best position to help her - maybe her parents dont know about the restaurant''s reputation/ quality.
