or may be the parents know the 'Reputation' or working in the american fast food chains and what it can do to children (one of the direct impacts is they stop eating roti-dal and are happy only with burgers/pizzas and pops)

As regards to kids being arrogant with their parents in public this is happening here more and more and sometimes it is embarrasing for us to see someones kids behaving that way but also a lesson to learn our kids could go that way to if not given enough time, care and support when they need it most ..
As regards to working in restaurants whether in desi or tims or anywhere else the exposure will be there and you possibly couldnot control it so dont let kids work but may be send them to volunteer in places where the chances of having right influence is more for ex ,this person TK is talking could easily employ his own daughter in his software company in a post matching her skills. it will help her earn her financial independence and parents could be sure of surroundings for her in the office ...well it may not be foolproof but it could be better than other options..unless the parents here want the girl to learn desi restaurant operations first hand and set up a chain of restaurants for her with all the money they have ..who knows ....

its for the girl and her parents to decide what they want to do with their life ...
and whether they want to open a restaurant or some other business ...
The girl herself or her parents are the people to ask these questions ...

But the point I have been making is that nothing is wrong if teenagers are doing some work ( ofcourse parents have to keep an eye if the kids are not falling in the bad company )

anyway who are we to judge others ...

by the way TK if you want to help her discuss this with her parents as Morning_rain suggested ... may be you will find out their reason of letting her work where she is working or you will convince them to move her somewhere else ...

Thanks for the replies.
It has made me understand people's mind a bit better (based on your opinions).
FYI, I am not close to them. I have visited them (as part of 6 individuals/ families) for about only 3 months now. I have never spoken to this girl face to face. It just sounded very funny to me when they were bragging that their child got a job and the child bragging that she got a job and that we was looking / hoping that they would increase the hours. I belive that this individual also remarked that it was her first job.
As an individual, I donot care if another individual works in a cheap indian restaurant or as a business analyst in Oracle. That being said, I would never allow my younger brother or my younger sister to work in this south indian restaurant (though i live pay cheque to pay cheque in Canada) just because it is not the kind of place decent and educated people would ever work to gain knowledge or whatever. Being in Mac, Tim, Wendy's etc... is much better.

Why do you call it bragging when all they are perhaps doing is relating enthusiastically a happy feeling that they share as a family?

N. America is different. There are many VPs, Directors of large corporation who don’t have a degree and educated guys like us with PHD, Masters are working under them. There are McDonald burger flippers who have become VP for McDonalds and other corportations.

It is the experience that counts and it does not matter which area. People change career many times in N. America. The earlier you are in the job market the better chance of getting better job. Here in N. America everybody has to start at the bottom and then move up.

I think she is doing the right thing and it better than hanging around in Malls.

Jayaram,
Your concept is quite wrong.
Mac, Tim, Home Depot, Loblaws etc... have a policy of promoting the lowest of the lower employees. However , almost all (and esp. the one that i am talking about) have no such policy nor environment. The owner is a small timer who is keen of making profits for himself and even can relieive waiters of their tip.
If you see my prev. post , I had encouraged that girl (in the CD forum) to atleast to have found employment in Tim, Mac or Wendy's.
Do you expect a average person working in Kaveri Supermarket at $ 8 an hour (cash job) to learn the business tactics of a multi national corporation?
I had once worked in UPS as a labourer for 3 X 4 hours (12 hours). The job was mostly loading boxes into trucks. Do you honestly belive that if i was doing that job all the days of my life, that i would learn something to make me a manager? Of course not. But UPS does have a policy of promoting and maybe i would come up like that.
The owners of these Desi restaurants always look to terminate employees if they are a bit bright/ upcoming/ask for a raise due to their hard work etc.. What progress can you expect from these restaturants apart from the fact that they may give you some free leftoever Indian food.
My OP was directed/advised that this individual could have found herself a better job which was far more decent (owning to the fact that her parents were not hard pressed for money). Toronto is a place where you could find a decent labour job a bit easily.
Just my views.
