Nobody proposed that ... people are saying that in canada it is OK for teenagers to work and all the jobs are respectable ( at least they are living off somebodys hard earned money )

I am sure there are smarter ones here also who go to college , graduate and then enter high profile careers and beat their above counterparts by millions and job satisfaction both . but for that they have to be consistent and preserve these vital years ......... its a thumb rule .. the more you will study and concentrate in the age of 17 ~ 25 , the more comfortable and less demanding and more paying your rest of your life is going to be ............... Compare a Professional Consultant and a clerk / waiter .... you will get the answer .

what I am getting from your above lines is that you still need to understand the world ... not all graduates make millions ( if that is the only goal of ones life ) and not all teenagers who worked and did not graduate will end up in misery financially ( there are many examples for both sides )
Now for the girl we were discussing nobody can say that she will not graduate or otherwise ... the point is she is working as a teenager which is a good thing ( at least I think so )

Character is the most important thing in any job one does ... if ones boss does not trusts him/her ... you are out of the job no matter how many phd's you might have done ...
one cannot get a job just based on degrees

Do you really think that TK writes what he has really experienced? He is a super genious who invites people's debates by putting a situation which he has gone through - both possible and impossibles.

It is a fact of life that genius people also have crooket minds.

Blabber ~for I don't have any doubt on our understanding of English .But there s something written b/w the lines sometimes which needs to be understood .

I re read the OP and my opinion is still unchanged and I sincerely wish to know where is my understanding wrong ( I might correct it ).

In the OP it s stated that though the girl was working weekends she s prepared to work more (I assume full time ) ... Now my relevant doubts are :

If she starts working full time w/o parents objection she will get quick money which will give her a feeling of independence monetarily . She will continue working as at this time she can get only this job since she s not qualified .

If this continues for 2- 3 years she has missed the bus , by not becoming a grad and prospectively being in a better position to launch her life . In the end , the time she s spent in gaining this independence , strength of character and other things that ppl say here , will loose to the opportunity she has missed had she studied towards her career . In b/w 17 ~ 25 I repeat the time is very crucial but the age doesn't realize that .Hence the need for guidance .

I am unable to understand why cant she get strength of character and independence later once she is in a career . Does that mean those who study and qualify themselves are bereft of these traits ? Moreover if she s doing this job half heartedly where s the strength of character .If she s doing it whole heartedly , she would be tired and unable to concentrate effectively on her studies .

Here in N America , these dead end jobs come dime a dozen and in most cases they make you sustain yourself leaving less incentive to work for a career and a better valued job ~ a crisis / vicious circle similarised in case of new immigrants .... they take up any jobs , spend 6 months , 1 year in it losing their functionality and then....... they are not in a position to continue their functionality.

I think if the girl s parents give her more motivation and reasons to study and be qualified she does not lose anything , but gains a much better probability of making a strong career and life ....... desi mentality as the OP states.

reread my post as well ... I never said that she will be a millionare ( I said she may .... there is a difference )

this is your assumption that her parents are encouraging her to start working permanently ....
who knows what they have in mind for her

By the way what I am saying and have been saying is that .... there is no harm in teenagers taking up a job

I dont think she has missed the bus ...
well not only 17 ~ 25 but any and all the time is crucial some people complete their education in late 30's or 40's or even later
I know somebody ... my neighbour is in his late 30's and just completing his Phd and he has done odd jobs in his teenage years
The system in Canada or for that matter North America itself is a little different than in India

what may be right in India may NOT be correct here in Canada and vice versa ...

Nobody said that who study do not have character ... may be you are reading TOO MUCH BETWEEN the Lines
having said that one learns a lot of things while working and learning from ones mistakes, and it is easier to overcome those mistake when you are in a low end job and you are not really worried about the money instead of doing those mistakes in a high end job ( DO NOT READ between the lines here or anywhere for that matter ) ...

Well what you say is true but there are people who have done what they wanted , even many immigrants who struggled and toiled hard and made a good fulfilling life for themselves ...

how can you say that they are not motivating her to excel in her studies , probably they are and may be this job is part of motivation for her to study ...

Well again the point I am trying to make is " NOTHING IS WRONG IF TEENAGERS ARE ALLOWED to work for some time "

and please do not read between the lines ...
