Thought of one more.

Most Indian immigrants come to Toronto like moths to a flame. Everyone is looking for jobs in the GTA area. Though the jobs are more here the competition is cutthroat and the number looking for jobs in this area far outweigh the opportunities.

Be smart, look for jobs in other areas e.g in Ontario, places like Ottawa, Kitchener-Waterloo, Milton etc (outside GTA) .. or even other provinces. Eventually once you have Canadian experience you can try applying to GTA companies.

I agree. Even labour jobs are NOT in plenty in GTA, forget office jobs. It maybe because number of immigrants are more here compared to other places.

Sometimes I wonder what do most desis or new immigrants do in Toronto. I am not talking of the lucky few who land up in right jobs! There are a few industrial jobs as compared to Mississauga or Brampton in TO and no one will give office jobs. May be they work in shops or security or something like that?

-------------------------------------------------------------
Office job questions

"You have not worked in Canada?"

"No"

"Sorry, we are looking for someone with Canadian experience"

or it could be simply "We do not have any suitable position for you but we will keep your resume on file"

-------------------------------------------------------------
Labour job questions

How many pounds can you lift?

Do you have a car or take the bus?

don't wait for the job, let the jobs wait for u. this is only possible when u have a skill/profession in greater demand. do the market study. there are myriads of ways to make a living. think of being semi self employed or self employed. find some delivery jobs if u own a car/van, but in the mean time u should have a strategy that what u want as a long term career? do the employment market research. the hottest jobs for next twenty years will be in service industry, PLC technician/electrician, maintenance millwrights, Xray/ultra sound technician, physio therapist, dental technician, nurse, dentist, doctor etc. make sure to do ur own research, don't let the college councellers tell u what is the hottest. they are just like "sales people" who want ur money. keep one thing in mind and that is don't choose a career where u always will be working under majority ly**mies. don't jump in for traditional programs where the job market is already saturated/flooded. IT in canada is just one of them along with several engineering careers.

i studied engineering some 25 yrs ago and i used to drive a cab in toronto for upkeep during my undergrad days. if u could hack cab driving, u can easily make 60K to 80 K/year. u can also be a truck driver and make a good living. there are all kinds of"0%" interst loans available, all kinds of grants available (not from the banx), 95% of population simply does not know it. and do urself a favor, "don't go to the money managers/consultants". They are just waiting for a "prey" which is, "you".

to those who want to start a small business, 70% of the new comers end up loosing because of "poor business planning".

So whatever career u choose today, make sure to look at it's "shelf life " for next twenty years.

don't let urself be discouraged by this racism, fight it out. u will control tomorrow's economy like the jewish people today. jews also faced the racism and still do. tomorrow, u will be in a position to "reverse" the racism.
