We are plannning a trip tpo New York .... any inputs on which is better place to stay in .... New Jersey or New York .... want to do the usual tourist thing ... any inputs on place to see ... have statue of liberty / times square on my list ... what else to see.
If you are on a budget, stay in NJ close to any NJ Transit station. For example, it is only 40 minutes to Manhattan from Edison or Metropark station.

Yep we are on a budget ... we would be driving down from here .... so you think we should move around in car there or use the transit there.... like how convenient is it to use transit & how inconvenient is it to drive / park in downtown NYC

Transit is better in NY. After coming from NY, you'll say Toronto Drivers are better.
If you are Renting & going to drive in NY City - let them know ... Some of the Renters don't cover NY City (I was told when I rented for NJ)
In NJ itself, you are better off driving around depending on where you stay.
I personally prefer taking NJ Transit to NY over driving. From Penn station in NY, you can take the subway and bus service to most attractions in the city. It is easier than driving, the traffic at the tunnels, and cost of entering the city and of course parking.
You could easily drive to a convenient NJ Transit station, park there, enjoy what the city has to offer, and return.
There are some who prefer to drive in the city, but it reminds me a bit of driving in India, and I have lost interest in improving my manouvering skills a bit... . Also, the one ways can be a bother...
Hi ,
Is it better to travel to NYC on overnight bus both ways on a long weekend ?
Considering this as one can save time and spend 3 days @ NYC which otherwise would be reduced to 1 ....
Has some one traveled on an overnight bus journey and how was the experience ?
Also can some one recommend some budget hotels to stay @ when planning a long weekend trip to NY .... which is well connected on public transit ??
