Hi,
I recently got TN visa to work in US. I am planning to move in the end of August and want to take my car with me which is registered in Ontario. I am not sure what is the procedure to take car to the US? Is there any duty I have to pay? Can I just cross the border in my car and transfer it later from within the US? What will be the car insurance obligations? I also want to take TV with me. Do I have to pay any duty for TV?
Thanks for any help in advance.

This has been discussion here before. You do not have to pay any duty. When you cross the border, ask the officer that you are also brining this car. He should give you a letter that you will need to show to the DMV when transferring registration of your vehicle.
Your ontario insurance should cover you initially. But as insurances in USA are cheaper, you should get insurance there ASAP.
TV or any other household items are ok for person going to work in the USA.

A Proud Indian Canadian
1/ I took the van from Canada to US.
2/ There is no issue at all if you do it properly.
3/ Take all letters Lien Holder OK
4/ Car meets US Standards letter ..
5/ Search for other documentation needed I think there is one other form for importing vehicle to the USA.
6/ I used the AB License plates until they were ready to expire and then registered in the US.
7/ Need smog test clearance if registering in California ...
But it is easy ... Not a problem at all ...
