Dear premlata s. kambli,
Since your son is a PR already, he will not have much delays in clearing out of the airport. I will provide a few details for him to settle down. Please do explore the websites thoroughly and then decide for yourselves as to the suitability of the accomodations, currently available. Some of the owners have not pulled them off the publications in which they posted them as they are already taken. It might happen to a few more. The selection becomes scarce as time progresses. So, be guided by the fact. Some need inspection and in person, by one who is taking it, as they want to see him too. You do have to know that they do play a game in this rental field. Do get accustomed to it and play it back with courtesy. i.e., if you don't like a place or find it unsuitable.
Just a word of caution: Please do not sign an years lease, as he can avail work after his completion of studies each year as he is a PR and there will be four months of break in which he can seek and find a suitable employment and supplement his income. In my opinion he will not find it difficult. But he has to be on the look out too. So go month at a time or say that it will be for 8 months or so. They will also need 'first and the last'* and a 'months notice'* that is the common practice.
There will be suitable accomodations within the campus that will fall vacant as a few of the students withdraw their request and move onto other areas. When that happens, he has to call and find out from the campus rentals and keep in touch with them from time to time and take it or leave it. You can do that from where you are by e-mail or by phone and save all of the hassles before arrival.
If he has to find a place outside of the campus, then he might need a bicycle or a bus pass{Student} for his commute. He has to first get a student ID and then proceed to get a bus pass, either monthly or quarterly, whichever he finds suitable.
There are Canadian Banks and Bank Machines close by and situatd at convenient locations and he can use them as he finds necessary.
If you take a look at the map provided, you will know that the outside accomodations are a little far off and it will be a brisk 20 minute walk at the outset each way.

You will have to search and locate this Kijiji:Ad ID: 18717806

The accomodations range between $400/ $500. all inclusive. Some have free laundry too. That is the range I would suggest that you look into. Anything over that limit will fall under POSH {A Naval term meaning Port out-bound and Starboard homebound especailly a cabin with a view of the harbour}

The off campus accomodations posted by them has no addresses or a map. you have to call or e-mail. May not be suitable, please do go through to get an idea.
You will have to call them to find the details and location.

I did contact two individuals to see for myself and get an idea of the distances and suitability. Some are far off and needs biking and their usage is common in Carlton University.
Many walk the distance if it is within 15 minutes. If it involves a walking of over 30 minutes most of them use the bikes. He might need a used bike and a lock. One of them said he will have a room falling vacant in October and he will also provide relief with the rentals by providing him with 'just a month at a time rental', if he decides to take it in October. It is situated on the 24th floor and of course POSH. This is just for your consideration. If it is over 40 minutes or so, then it is worth considering taking a bus if available or find a rental situated on the bus route, if there are no places close by.
Taxi costs under $20 from the Air Port to the Carlton University, may be also to the other renatals close by.
Kijiji and craigslist are the two common ones that I look into for the rentals. The local news papers also carry them. You please do the necessary search for them, if you find that it is necessary. I don't think you will need to get into this in my opinion. There are ample ads in all of these and most suitable ones are in there.

I wish to welcome your son back to Canada and also wish him 'A safe trip and Happy Landings'.

Freddie.

I suggest that u contact the Indian Student Association at the univ. They should be able to help out. There are number of high rise apts near the unvi. Your son can share a room. Number of landlords rent out to students. There is a train that goes to the univ. That's good for students who can stay at a distance. But they need to stay close to the train station, if they dotn have a car. Remember, Ottawa winter is harsh, colder than Toronto.
