This is in context of \"Struggles in Canada\"
We have read many posts on this site, wherein the factors like job-prospects, health-care, education for children have been discissed in detail. But not too much on the Climate Factor.
I have a close friend in Toronto, who migrated in August 2003. His feedback is that the extremely cold conditions is quite a dampener. We all know before migrating that the temperatures can be in the range of -20 to -30 degrees C, and we also know that most indoor places are heated. But only when one reaches Canada does one realize the enormity of this problem. For six months, we cannot really go on a walk with our kids...can we? No-outdoor activity for 6 months....seems like confined life!
Seniors, please throw some light....have I over-estimated this problem?

I would not consider climate as dampener. Though for new immigrants I would suggest ( if possible)to immigrate right after winter, so they would have almost 8-9 months to accustomize with all Canadian seasons.
You can go out ( as most of us go) for walking and playing with your kids, as long as you are well protected. My son go out and play in the snow for 2-3 hours sometime, so it is not that bad Besides this you can send your kids for ice skating classes and swimming (indoor pools) too. Almost all city centers have open air free skating arena, so during weekends or evenings kids can go there to have fun.
IN CANADA WINTER IS FUN
Thanks and regards.
