I have a situation here and seek advice from you all.
I am on my Maternity leave and am getting EI ...the leave end in a few months.
Yesterday i got correspondance from my company saying that the company site is closing down and they have been forced to do mass termination.
Now what should i do ?
I wanted to go for some skill development and join some good course before my leave ended. Also since i do not have any help in looking after my kids, I wanted to extend my leave.
What are the options available ? Can somebody please advice?
note:I have 600 hours of work done.

It is a blessing in disgiuise. WHen you are ready to go to work AFTER your maternity leave has ended and you donot have your job back at the old company, then you are entitiled to another full term of your employment insurance. This is for "Unemployment" and follows your "Maternity leave".
As I know, your are eligible for first time EI after 910 hours of work (may vary according to location). But if they gave you maternity benefits after 600 hours of work they MAY give you EI with 600 hours of work. Check this out by calling an EI agent at the local HRDC office (they now have a new name).
In case you are eligible for EI, make full use of it. Now Dalton MaCGunity has come up with some high level costly training for people under Unemployment insurance. So this could potentially be worth much more than the sum that they pay you every 2 week as Unemplyment benefits.
You can use " Search Charcha" option to find out what desi's say about EI and how some guru's have used them to their advantage.
