Just came across this issue with a friend's license. She is from south India and her lndian license reads her name as X.ABC, where ABC is her name and X is the initial of her father's name. The very next line in the license reads 'Fathers name: M.XYZ". Her PR card reads ABC XYZ.
She went to Bramton Drivetest center to apply for G1, but was told she will need to get a letter from India RTO certifying that the 'X.ABC' is indeed her to allow the 12 months driving experience credit. Her picture and signature being there in the license is not good enough it seems. She was told by the person at the information center that 'It may be your custom in India, but here, you need to follow the rules here'. More discussion with the official or the supervisor didnot work. They went to Etobicoke drivetest and everything was accepted without any issues.
Just FYI. In case any one else runs into similar issue.
Btw, the person at the Brampton office was desi looking and the one at Etobicoke was white. Whom will we expect to understand Indian customs better???

You can ask three reps of an organization the same procedural question and get three different answers. Whether the answer makes sense or not doesn't really matter. The incident above is just a case in point.
