Hi
l have usa driving license.. got it in 10th Oct 2008 and expires 9th sep 2010...
l called in MTO for exchanging license and i got two diff replies from them...
FIRST REPLY
l asked them if i need my G license directly, one of them said its possible if you do it after oct 2010 (acc to him if i have us license older than 2 yr i can get my G license directly or else i ll get G2....)
l asked him my license ll expire in sep 2010 i.e. 1 year and 11 months....he said still thats ok i ll be able to get G directly even if its expired...
SECOND REPLY
l asked the same question and reply i got is i wont be able to get the G license if my US license is expired...
Any suggestions CD's ?
And also they asked me to obtain abstract of my US driving record...How do i obtain that and from where ??
SHould i get my G2 license rite now...and how abt if i get G2 now till when will it be valid..can i renew G2 without test or i ll have to give G2 road test again if its expired ..l dont have a car rite now and not planning to buy one till next year...atleast coming summer...

If you do not have a car or plan to buy a car anytime soon, I would suggest that you wait for 2 years to complete. In the meantime, find out if you can renew your US license when it is about to expire.

for renewing the license i will need to have some kind of status in USA>
My H1 visa is expiring on same day as US license...
To get the license for the first time, they ask for the status (like the I-94 and visa), for renewal they do not (at least in some states). See the web site of the state DMV that issued you the license, for the information regarding the renewal.

yep i saw that ...and in order to renew your license you need SSN... as per their website...
dont know should i get my G2 or wait and get G if possible...
and i m not sure even if in case a situation arise where i decide to buy car after few months..

ahh...you do not even have a SSN - then it could be an issue (How did you get it the first time then?)
Anyways, it will not hurt to wait. That way, you have a possibility to get a G license. If you surrender it now, you are sure to get a G2.
No...l have SSN rite now.. but its also gonna expire on the same day my visa will expire and my US license will expire...
