Hi,
I have been getting a bill from bell for several months and I have been calling them for several month to know why I am getting billed. No one was able to tell me why I am getting billed and they also opened case files and promised me that my account will not get referred to collection agency till it gets resolved.
But yesterday I received a letter from collection agency about this bill and this company too does not have clue as to why I am getting billed. All they want is money from me.
What I need to do to get the proper information and my name taken off from the collection agency list?
Is there a government agency/court/private agency that can help?

Throw the bill and letter in the garbage and if the collection agency calls you then tell them to do whatever they can do. They are tooth less. If they threaten you then tell them that you are going to call police/ consumer right board.

That would be a very foolish thing to do. In Canada, you are normally assumed guilty unless you can prove otherwise. No one will clear up the mess that Bell got you into, unless you take steps to clean it yourself. The collection agency has the power to include this entry into the credit beureu and it can mess up your credit score.
Have all the paper work filed and your conversations documented. Contact the BELL Ombudsman and ask him to look into the matter. You can get his contact details from Bell website. The Ombudsman can solve all your problems, provided you prove with your documentation that you have got the bills by Bell's mistake and all your steps tp resolve this mistake of Bell have been unsucessful.
If you are a person with a lot of free time and f you are a bold and extrovert person, you can speak to Bell CS (regarding this matter) and negotiate some goodies (like one year free phone and internet service) for the mess that they have got you into and for wasting your time and psycologically harrassing you.

Peace by TK

This is just the tip of the iceberg for you unfortunately. If someone can do this, then there is a possibility they can lease a car in your name, buy a house and get a mortgage in your name too. I would act quickly to lock your personal accounts at the bank, lock your credit cards, call Equifax and TransUnion to see what kind of activity you've had on your file. I believe they have a system of not releasing any credit info on you without some sort of secondary verification. Then worry about Bell.

I am 100% agree with tamilkuravan....a very good advise.

I was in the same situation when an electronic companie's sales person gave me a gift card of 10$ and adjusted that amount in the product which I bought. Later I come to know that he booked me for Bell internet without my consent I have received the router in post. After a month, I have started not only receiving the bills but also they started taking out the money out of my master card, which I used to buy the product.

I called Bell as well that electronic company and asked them how come they shared my master card numer info with Bell. Also asked Bell supervisor that how can they pull money from my master card without my signatures or consent. He promised to resolve the issue. I took his name and sent out a letter to Bell as well as electronics company and threaten them to take the issue to small claims court as it caused me a lot of harrasment.

Later, Bell refunded all money they took and cleared the account. You have to talk to their supervisor.

Thank you TK and Delhit for your response (Also Desi #1 and Big Vee). I am trying all I could to get in touch with the CSRs and their Supers but more I am trying more ending up frustrated by either getting hunged up or non satisfactory answers..They just keep passing the buck and end result is I am spending time for hours.
Will be interesting resolution. I will keep trying.
Man it is so easy to harass someone by simply sending bill for months and refer the account to collection agency.

thanks,
Vipeen

Use a more sensible approach - write to thier head office with facts and supporting documents. Also let them know that if the matter is not resolved to your satisfaction you have the option to drag them to court at thier expenses.

Like Delhite mentioned, WRITING letters works much better than CSR's who are hired agents having limited control/power.

Act fast and shoot them a letter by registered mail - with copy to collection agency, if you have thier address.

Dont waste any more time on CSRs, you will not get any resolution in this matter.

Good luck.

Hiren
