I am in India for last 6 months , coming to Canada next week , I am on 3 yr contract with bell , I asked them if i can temporary suspend my services and resume when i come back but they said no , now I have a bill for last six months around $ 350 to 400 without using the service , I am not happy with bell plans anyways and I looking for a change, what happens if don't pay the bill and go for another provider, does it affect my credit record etc ?
Thanks
Bell will most likely turn your account over to a collection agency, and you will soon have the collection agency hounding you.
And yes, unless you settle with them soon, it will start showing up on your credit report.
With all due respect, I think you owe them the payment for the services.
You signed a contract with them for 3 years and you can't simply stop paying like that.

Yes, its always good idea to continue paying ..untill u come up with some solutions...dont let this effect on your credit rating...will hurt u in future.
meanwhile u can start negotiating with them on monthly charges... may be ask them to temporary lower your plan to minimum charge. i am not sure what plan u hv but i think u can switch your plan to min 20$ per month. when u come back u can put it back to your original plan.

When in contract, they don't allow service suspension (same with Rogers)...
To the OP, it would have been cheaper to you if you had broken the contract earlier.. you could have just said you are moving out of the country for good due to the employment reasons or so and they might have waived the contract termination penalty even. Now, its too late to do that.. you can try calling them up from India and let them know that you had to move out for good etc.. they might give you some discounts (If you are out of the country for good, they will need to spend more for collection.. so they might be willing for a discounted settlement).. but, you will need to pay the ISD charges and may end up with nothing as well..
