We are doing nothing. It is upto them .

You know you are a desi when ........ You spew forth the virtues of India, but don't want to live there...............You've never had a tanning salon membership
Whatever influence of the Canadian culture be on our children, we should never stop teaching our children our good values, our culture and especially the mother language. I think other communities like chinese, french have even strong bindings to their culture. Have u seen when a chinese meet another chinese they speak in chinese and same is true in case of french people (These people are very rigid to their culture) but when we Indian meet each other we start thinking which language to speak with (BTW we have more than 15 languages in India and we are the most confused people here), even if we belong to different provinces/cultures in India, why do we hesitate so much to speak in Hindi which is our national language. Why are we so much hesitant to promote our culture. I think we should always strive to show the Canadians the good picture of India and its diverse cultures (And stop exposing the bad things of India, as our bollywood stars are already contributing enough to show the world through pictures like slumdog.... and we are happily supporting them)
Thanks everyone for your responses.
I was just wondering if you:
1. make it a point to take your child to a temple
2. make them pray every morning after a bath/shower
3. dress up for Indian festivals and take them to temples
4. and for example, send them to Balvihar perhaps
5. teach them some history of India
6. teach them discipline and morals...something as simple as respecting elders
7. take them to India frequently
8. tell them about your parents and grandparents (if they don't live with you)
9. tell them the importance of family and to uphold family values
To be honest, I am not very concerned about sleepovers and stuff like that...as long as it is good family on the other side. Definitely won't encourage sleepovers where parents smoke for example or are known to fight a lot...etc
I understand that parenting is basically facilitating and nurturing the individuality of your children and not putting your stamp on them. But I believe we have some role in shaping who they will be along the way...it is not entirely "upto them". That just does not work in reality.
Not directly on CBCD, but I have another confusion.... For the past few months, I thought I'm seeing new members (mostly south indian sounding names) joing CD, starting off a topic which can be debated either way, then just disappear all together.... or am I mistaken?
Revathy, Geetahari, NaradaVijaya etc. are some of the id's I can think of...
I will advise that pls donot let them aadha titer aada bater.
