the best position to ask for layoff is when the company forces all of you into the meeting room and tells you that 50% of the number gathered must be laid off and asks for volunteers. And if the volunteers donot add up to 50% of people to be laid off , then they will make their own list ( Eg. GM, Crysler etc...)

No matter what someone's personal situation is, is it ever a good idea to wish them success in losing their job?

You know, recession or not, there is one better way to move to another city. One applies. Interviews. Gets job. gives notice at current job. Moves.

Thats how everyone else does it.

The reason he wants a layoff is that he can do a course (in Toronto) under skill developement scheme of HRDC. You have to read the "SAP module" thread to make sense of what Blue_Peafowl is writing on this thread.

Ok. Thanks.
I worked for 5 years in an employment resource centre assisting clients obtain HRSDC skills training thats why I am very familiar with the process.
Unless he has limited transferable skills, regardless of the location, he might have difficulty.

It is good to know that you have assisted clients obtain HRSDC skills training .

My question is I m moving for better future of me and my family, work wise, language wife and carrier wise.

Since my wife and kids are moving i have no choice but to move with them weither its my wife's personal decision or carrier related, i cant let them go alone. - JUSTIFY ?

Plus dont forget for last 12 years i m paying them my ei premium so they are doing any favor , they are only giving me what i hv pay for .

so no matter what if i move i will apply for EI and if they dont approved i'll fight for it.

while I appriciate you paying EI premium for 12 years, EI premiums are just like Automobile insurance. you donto get paid unless you get into an accident.

best of luck in this one.
My personal experience is that the Canadian Govt. has written a set of rules for claiming the EI rules. what ever happens, they will NEVER give you EI unless your claim follows the rules of payout. You just canot assume your own senarios and expect a payout.

all the best
