Heard this in the yoga class.
Ideal weight is, height in inches = weight in kgs, with 5% margin of error.
People also measure this using BMI - Body Mass Index.
The formula is Weight in Kg / (Height is Meter * Height in Meter)
BMI <= 18 Underweight
BMI > 18 and < 25 Perfect weight
BMI > 25 and < 30 Overweight
BMI > 30 Obese
In General the formula you provided is valid and easy to use.
A person with 66 inches of height and weight of 66 kg will have BMI of 23.5
A person with 66 inches of height and weight of 61 kg will have BMI of 22
A person with 66 inches of height and weight of 71 kg will have BMI of 25
The mismatch is on the lower weight - the BMI formula would consider one with 51 Kg with the same height of 66 inches of perfect weight, whereas as per our way it is less by more than 10 percent of the ideal weight.
