It is really interesting to see how different perspectives can be on the same issue.
But these contrasting views will only help to make the debate more wholesome and people like me who are not in Canada yet can get more insight by going through different and varied thoughts.
In their own way opinions / views of all the contributors could be right because they are discussing different aspects of one subject.
I am happy that this thread is progressing in a positive and constructive way unlike some threads in which the contributors start getting personal and bashing each other.
Thanks.
I read the article with gr8 interest.
Firstly, it is true that Asian students fuel the admission process to univ, but then how many of them are allowed to choose the course they are interested in?? ( We know only Medicine and Engg!!!)
Secondly, I happened to have a detailed talk with the Principal of my son's high school. He was quite frank in telling me that Asians want only univ graduates out of their kids whereas there are so many technical courses available like DTP, Electrician, Auto Mechanic etc etc. He laughed when he told me that his neighbor was a AC Mechanic with Direct Energy, who has repaid his mortgage and goes on vacations around the world, while this principal has not seen the whole of canada!
Thirdly, as someone pointed out, the students here are taught to be multi-faceted. Try solving a 11 grade or a 12th grade problem and see for yourself! In fact I send my son's work sheets and quizzes to my nephew who is preparing for IIT!!
To end, every system has its own pros and cons. Having come here (99%) for the sake of the future of our kids, let us accept it. Such a positive thought would ease our burdens, understand the problems of our kids etc.
And my son in Gr 12 now wants to be a microbiologist, is about to qualify as a pianist (RCM Gr 8), plays the trumpet in his school band, which was recently adjusted one of the best in Canada and also represents his school in badminton. I swear this might not have been possible if I were in India (belonging to the so called forward caste) or in Dubai, where everything was expensive!

Good luck to everyone
There is a difference between the two education systems..
In Canada there is more emphasis on communication and application of knowledge.. Upto grade 12 the education content including maths is pretty low with emphasis on sports and all round development.
In india there is more emphasis on volume of knowledge.. does this need mugging thats how the parents push it on the kids.. but todays kids in india are equally extrovert and good in communication.. So this makes indian education system far superior to the one here...
Most of the people who migrate from india have indian education and are doing quite well.. so i dont know how u arrived at the conclusion that indian eduction is not good..
I think what u are comparing is urself or ur peers as students in india with the kids today and there is no comparison.. todays generation is far far ahead even in india...
I know 15 year old girls (relative of mine) in india who are spending time learning Dancing from Shaimak Davar and playing soccer for their school team travelling all over the state.. ...
India has changed in the past 10 years and u have missed it i think..
