Fido, Yes, we'll move to India anytime if my husband gets an opportunity, what matter now is not financial security but his career. I'll again repeat that my answer is different from others because our case is different. We are stuck because my hubby belongs to mining industry which is mostly done in SA, Africa or Quebec. We have never lived in Canada and currently where we live the place has no infrastructure, medical, schooling or other benefits Canada or India offers. Yeah air is pollution free but snakes (we have 10 incidences of snake in our garden, balcony and outside bathroom), anaconda's, crocodile (we have a creek opposite my home and guards keep coming to shoot them off, now and then), iguanas are plenty. This all scared us in the beginning but not now! My kids (5 yrs) love India cause it is full of people (family) who loves them, here no one knows us. May be my answer would have been different if we were in Canada but we are not there yet and I doubt/think will we ever take the plunge of coming to Canada?

We would have never come from India if our circumstances were like OP's. Let's conclude this story here and the OP decide what he wants to do, we both are looking at the same scene but have different interpretations.

Have a nice weekend, we are going to a wedding tomorrow in a small village (near to Guyana border), kids are excited for it!

Many people outside canada are not aware of situations in canada. More than half come to canada and suffer all these pathetic conditions doing labour jobs, cold weather, because canada is ticket to go to USA.

Seeing from all perspective, I wonder as whether, it is better to go back myself or stay for the sake of children. there is an eg: before me of a patel family in dubai, they are still in dubai, they send their children for further studies in Australia and now they are citizens and they have applied for their parents citizenship. our children also can come later for higher studies.

only time will tell but I think you need more courage to go back.

Gopal pai,
You are expecting too much in very short time in this cursed (for Indian immigrants other than IT /Accounting / labour jobs) land. You just arrived in May and already in August, you are feeling frustrated.
Canada is not a dream land nor is it a quick get rich country.
This is recessionary times. Even for the past 3 months, i am searching for a labour job and no one is calling me. This is despite me having 7 years of solid Canadian experience working under an Italian Canadian. So how much more frustrated I would feel.
This is a country where you will struggle, loose all your money, loose your peace of mind, Loose all your skills, loose all your talents for the sake of your children (this is in the future). At one point, you may even want to go back to India or Gulf (like me) but canot pay for the flight ticket or temp. accomodation in the Gulf / India.
I came in April 2002 after being in a professional environment overseas to a place which was just recovering after recession. My first my line entry job was in october at $10 cash and which was converted into payroll (after 9 Months). I got my first raise to $11 which was in the end of 2004. When I was fired from my job, I was in $14 range (on annual salary). But despite all this I was happy in Canada till Oct 2007 b'cos I thought that people in the Gulf / India were in a worse off situation. It was only in oct 2007 that I got in tocuh with some of my classmates / Orkut and they told me that they were earning like Rs. 2.5 lakhs a month in India or AED 20,000+free accomodation in Dubai. I was also happy till Oct 2007 b'cos at this time, all the people in my profession in Canada were in labour jobs or unemployed. I was happy that atleast I had an entry level professioal job.
So this is a country with a lot of challenges to professional immigrants. The govt. nor anyone is going to take pity on you and provide you with jobs / money. The onus is on you to find the govt. schmes that are available for your professional training / ask other immigrants how to survive here and take the cue from there. List yoru short term / long term goals and see if Canada can fulfill your career goals.
The onus is on you to suceed in Canada or leave Canada. No one can make the decision for you. Personally I would love to have you in canada doing labour jobs and paying for my CPP/OAS /Healthcare etc...

Peace by TK

Please continue to update us on your progress regularly on this thread - it will give the rest of us an idea and also help new immigrants whether your decision was a good idea.
