Hi
My updates for Magic-Jack (April 17,2010)
This month I got Magic-Jack and they charged me $10/year for a Canadian number.
The Magic-Jack is working perfectly and i bought a HP Thin client Hp-5720
(from ebay) for Magic Jack and I don't need any more computer.
The electric consumption of Thin client is 5 watts/hour.
I sent one Magic-jack with Thin client back home and its working perfect.
After power failure it turn on automatically which is really a good feature for back home.
The power supply comes with this work on 110V-240V.
My hone phone bill is $ 2.00/month with all the features including caller ID,Call forwarding,3 way calling, with unlimited free calling to USA and Canada
http://www.themagicjack.ca/
Their website above says you get Canadian number for $60/year. Has any one tried it ?
I just got a notification from Rogers that the home phone bill will be going up by another 10%.

MajicJack needs your computer to be on all the time if you are going to receive calls. It is not very convinient.
Why dont you use something Comwave / Acnanc VOIP Phone. Work over the invernet.
Rogers / Bell are rip-offs.
That is my first thought though. If the computer gets infected with Virus or goes standby or some of switches it off.. Kaput.
VOIP are the best alternatives I would assume given that we do not carry them where we go compromising / complicating the 911 feature.

VOIP have enahanced 911 - you need to register your name and address on thier 911 service. 911 works with VOIP phones.
