Other CDs have more information than me, but still..

1) Medical insurance - Check with OHIP what kind of coverage is reimbursible. Also, if you have insurance at work, they MIGHT cover for some expenses

2) Vaccination (for adults) - Typhoid, HEP A/B, H1N1, Malaria tablets, Tetanus. Some might be free.

4) Just curious - why would you want to drive in India? If you are going for a short term duration, you can use rickshaw or hire a taxi on a lumpsum basis. Ahmedabad has "dial-a-cab" service.

5) Canadian stuff to buy - search the messageboard archives. Lost of posts on shopping tips.

7) Yes. Canadian credit cards can be used. Just be careful. Check your statements. When I went to Pizza Hut, the bill had my complete card# instead of xxxx's. I just strike them out so that nobody could read.

7. Let your credit card company know that you will be traveling to India since they could block the transaction if they suspect anything. Anyway it is better to use cash I think.

My chip enabled cards did not work in India - even swiping them like regular cards.
It may have been that one particular store that was not able to do it.
Non chip worked fine.

I think I came across another thread on CD in which people have listed checklists when going to India ...

Please browse and you will find it ... 2 things that I recall from there are :

Keep a photocopy of your passport and ticket separately as well ....

Take less things of your use and more of gifts in your baggage so that while returning you have more space to get back new things ....

But really that thread seemed interesting and it would be worthy to check out for it.
