Hopefully, she would get a job and would help us make ends meet.

If you guys can point us in any direction on her job front that would be great as well. I am reviewing past threads and looks like mostly there are contract jobs in Canada and that too "Canadian Experience" is a huge factor.

If she is in IT then "Canadian Experience" is excepted. This rule is conveniently applied, mostly by recruiters and then by some hiring managers based on their own likings. Anyhow, if it is US experience then it is plus. I don't think getting expensive education would really help as it does not really give you the so called experience. Since the hiring works little bit different here and you have to go through oversmart but actually dumb recruiters/headhunters, start applying to the jobs now only. As you know linked-in is the best place to keep updated resumes and connections.

Start applying from US only..workopolis, monster, sapphire are some good places to look for the jobs.
Good luck!

EB2 GC in US is underway (PD of 2011) but now after filing I140 I really cant go back to school or take risk of changing jobs because you can not get an non-immigrant visa (F1) after the I140 is filed in the US. The positive thing is however, if we stay in Canada to get our Citizenship, my priority date would be most probably current by then and all it would take is a willing employer for me to get a US GC.

1. If you quit your employer who has filed 140 on your behalf, will your employer retain the 140? If not, wouldn't you lose the PD? Or, do you already have an approved 140 and waiting to file 485? If you live in Canada, you can't pursue AOS, instead must pursue CP.

2. Enrolling in Cdn school will not get her Cdn experience. From that point, it would be a waste of time. As bhootnath suggested, apply from the US as you would at least get some ground work done before moving. She can use her US experience as a leverage.

There is no such thing called "Canadian Experience" at least for BAs with financial domain. US experience is well enough for getting the job with any of the top 5 banks and other financial institution. start job search with workopolis and linked in. Look for opportunities on bank website.

BA is quite a flourishing area these days. Your wife shouldn't have any issues while securing a good job in a rather less time.

Good luck!

Hi Guys,

One more thing. Is there generally a probation period in the Govt jobs (Crown)? My employer has listed in the employment letter that there is a 6 months probation during that time my compatibility with job, role etc will be seen.

This is a concern because I may be let go because of a whim of my boss. I wanted to be sure that this is more of a generic formality rather than a specific clause they inserted.

Any thoughts?

Probation is very common in Canada...Almost all company's has it & you cannot escape it. My probation was for 3 months & for that time you practically cannot call yourself permanent. Your medical benefits starts after probation period, but the plus point is it also runs for that same period after you are fired or layedoff..

I thought I read the salary which is offered to you is around 100K... believe me if you cannot make your ends meet in that then there is a problem somewhere !!! I know it all depends on an invidual lifestyle but 100K is kind of a dream salary around here to live with...
