hi,
glad to find this site ... am new to the forum.
I will be moving to Vancouver in August. Can you guys tell me if there are places to avoid , and which would be a good comfortable affordable location to live: if you could run down the major areas like west side, east side, burnaby,richmond,surrey..pros and cons... For newcomers, how is the rent scene? What is the deposit, advance and/or move-in fees? I will be doing the job search for IT project manager/systems analyst position... if that is any consideration for the location...
also with regards to job search, for temporary jobs do any of you have resume samples... i am lost for what to put on there...
thanks a lot for the help...

Hi Sangeeta,
I am in Vancouver and would be happy to help you in your settlement process. My wife and I are hosts for several newcomers and would happily help you.
Rents in Vancouver are not high. You need to give more information on whether you have school going children as that impacts the place you live in. You would want to be close to a good school. Rent would depend on number of bedrooms etc.
Deposit is one month rent.

School is not a consideration. A one bedroom apartment works, so does a studio. Wonder if thats any big difference though, costwise.
Where in Vancouver are you? And what do you do?
I am glad to find this site and am hoping to meet and make a lot of new friends.
Thanks again, very much.

We (self wife and 2 sons aged 16 and10) are also moving into Vancouver this Aug (2005) and share the same concerns / questions raised by Sangeeta.
Will appreciate responses vis-a-vis locations within Vancouver.

Ok guys I am joining the club!
I will be landing in Nov-Dec 05. I need to know the following things in Vancouver:
1) I am looking for gyms, fitness clubs? What could the rate be?
2) Driving schools
3) Travel agents specialising trips to India?
4) Temporary living accommodation
5) Temporary job resources
6) Where can one access the internet if one does not have a computer at home?
Can anybody elaborate on these and help me understand how I could get through these once I'm in Vancouver??
Will appreciate it!
