Thanks Anil, I see your point. Id love to hear about everyones opnion.

Believe it or not I got one person who was interested within 30 mins of my posting. After the feedback I’m getting here, I think I should elaborate on the idea and a few of the benefits.

To start with the big problem, ‘Canadian Experience’. The inflow of highly skilled workers, who do not have Canadian Experience. Here in Canada there are lots of IT professionals who cannot get an IT job cause they do not have Canadian Experience, now if you work for a Canadian business, you over come this problem.

The government is putting in a lot of money and effort to make people self-employed. So there definitely is opportunity and plenty of resources. I have seen heaps of government tenders for IT work.

If you tried to start a business as an individual, you will find it hard, you would not have all the expertise and the overheads would be too much. Example while getting the business started there are a number of things that you need to consider, marketing, organizing, researching etc.

By dividing this among a few people you are not burdened by all the tasks. Also people are key to a consulting business and if a client could see a good number of professionals with a huge skill pool they would be willing to give you the job rather than a one man company.

If you start out with a few others, you are minimizing investments and also increasing the skill set. Combining ideas etc. Also in a company you are limiting the loss.

This would also be appealing to people who have already got a job, and are working in a non IT job, you could work after hours, work at home to start off with.

In the end I’m not saying that there is no reason for failure, but one has to try before giving up.

This isn’t a job scam, it’s a genuine effort at making it big in this country, helping others and benefiting in the process. Everybody is a winner.

Hi BL/Garvo,

Mr Ramesh (Stardust) has also started a similar thread in the Business section.

The link is http://www.canadiandesi.ca/read.php?TID=3520

I feel we can delete any of the one one so as to maintain continuity.

This would ensure replies at a single place.

Regards

I've done the same. Thanks for pointing it out, Manan.

And I've moved this to the business section which is the right section.

IMO, starting a business is not a substitute for "canadian experience" If you can not convince a company to give you "canadian experience" how do you expect a company to give a project or assignment to a company with no track record or canadian experience?

My friend, it is lot easier to get canadian experience than starting a business...believe me, I have been in both boats! For your info., majority of business startups fail even after people have canadian experience and have worked for long time in Canada. That should tell you that odds are stacked against you heavily.

Govt. programs are typically corporate handouts for established businesses... first hand experience here. The govt. gives out piddly amount to promote self-employment. Don't believe the statistics of success of these self-employment programs either ... a great majority of those "successes" are doing business on the side and that means their businesses don't generate enough to support even living expenses.

Yeah, I have seen heaps of govt. IT tenders also, they mean nothing. As a business startup, you will not pass even most basic of their requirements - reference accounts, how much business did you do with them, what is your company financial background? Majority of companies I talked to say don't even bother with govt. work until they are well established (>4 years in business). I just finished over 500k worth of govt. IT proposals for a client, guess how many we expect to get ... consider lucky if we land even 10k!

Remember the business rule, if it looks easy either you don't have the complete picture or millions are already doing what you want to do and well ahead of you.

Do you have any idea how many IT consulting business are in town? There are only two things will make you succeed - relationship with clients and your differentiation in the marketplace. Do you have both of those in place?

Unless, you have good chemistry, confidence or have known him/her for long time, I will not recommend to team up with anyone to start a business. Marriage of convenience don't last long. If you are very interested and committed be a loneranger, you will be completely responsible for success/failure of business.

Gotta go! but will write more later ... I am not discouraging you just trying to show the realities of something which you may think is easier than getting "canadian experience."

Hi Startdust,

How serious you are about this? did you make any project report?
If you are really serious then we can have a tel. conversation,
but I have a bit different plan I am not intending to do voluntary work at the moment.

Cheers
Raj
