Nahin to, but maybe they are poaching from me:)
Here is story of how it coming to pass. In college, bunch of us thinking (chal 'thunking' to make BL happy:) )why not comedy play making about hinglish and we are coming up with idea of ekdum stretching, bending and exaggerating the Hinglish to ekdum completely making garbar ghotaalaa of it by using high funda English words like oleaginous, smarmy, unctuous, troglodyte and plenty more and mixing with pure khochar vernacular of Byculla, Muhammed Ali Road, Dhongri, Suklajit Street, with sprinkling of Grant Road and Mahim and all. Then we making hilarious play and putting in college and it got so many claps that we put on again and then to another college and another and finally one Ronnie Screwala, who is famous personality in Mumbai theatre circles taking to Shanmukhnanda Hall, Tata Hall and other big halls and it getting rave reviews in TOI, you are knowing -ekdum high flown English intercalated with lingo from raastaa ka Hindi. Then we thunking of English word for Garbar Ghotaalaa and we coming up with 'transmogrify'.
Yehi hai kahaani. Lakin looking like many Canadian desi here not grokking (this is English word neologised by Robert A. Heinlein in his novel "Stranger in a Strange Land";) the humour, but it is sounding better than it is for reading.

Arey you are seeing "Salaam namaste"- Ekdum Croc Dundee character "I do not the trust the Indains" and then he talking to his lover and she saying "Sorry" and he replying "Yigzactly", like e to the pi i + 1001 times, so to saying. Arey ekdum jhakas!

Have nice day:)

What is the fuss about? Have you seen a forum of all the countries you and DT have mentioned in English? Do we have our canadiandesi in Hindi? Why are you writing in english when you know all the members are predominantly from the subcontinent?

And yes speaking of snobs - I think you should stop writing in english.

The reasons why we are using English in this forum are listed below:

1. Windows in Hindi (and keyboards with Hindi) are not that easy to find.

2. Even if we were to present each CD member with a Hindi version of Windows and a Hindi keyboard, we'd still get complaints that not everybody knows how to type Hindi and demands for Windows in different languages (and related keyboards) would take us straight back to Square One (Not the mall :D )

3. Even if we somehow figured out the problem of supplying everybody with a version of Windows and a keyboard in their preffered language, we would then get complaints of people not being able to communicate with each other and so it will go on and on.

So all jokes apart, English is an "Internatinal Language", used to enable communication around the globe. That said, it should never be allowed to replace your primary mother tongue and that of your chidren. We have people born and brought up in Canada who proudly claim English as a Second Language (although you couldn't tell). This is a FACT in most emigrant groups, no matter which country they immigrate to. Sadly, Desis don't share this trait with other immigrants. Over zealous assimilation or inferiority complex? You Decide. :D

Sometimes, neither. My wife and I don't speak a common Indian language and English is our language at home and streets. We have friends fom varied demographics and hence for the most part English remains our conversational language. So far, it has worked out just fine.

Refer to my original posting. It is not the usage of English which bothers me. It is being ashamed of speaking your own language that irks me.

Why should anybody have a feeling of inferiority complex when speaking in Hindi, Gujarati, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam........ in a public place?
