The bumpers may look intact, but the sensors did fail in them!

FH.

I disagree - changes new bumper will cost double or even more ...

Ur right that most of the bumper has sensors - having sensor is good... if its damage you will get engine line and its easier to find out the problem by reading code.

Go with reputable body works guys - they can do the job and will save you money with used/refurbished parts.

NOTE: try not to invest much in Car ( value depreciate fast) - so i would go with old parts if necessary

Folks ~ Thanks a lot .

First and foremost a Huge Request to Full House ~ Please do not leave the forum if it does not affect any of your personal objectives ..... Its a REAL PLEASURE to have you on the forum ....

That you are so very helpful and concerned is another equally BIG reason why we all would love you to be in the forum .

There are people who read the forum @ leisure and move away re appearing once in a while and hardly contribute to the forum .....

And then there are people like you who contribute so heavily into even the topics that have been left responded by others........ The time and effort you have devoted to the forum is acknowledged with the deepest of gratitude from all of us who have been benefited.

SO PLEASE DON"T LEAVE CD !!!!

Now back to the car and bumper .

For one ~ Mine is a 10 year old car ..

I think it might need the bumper cover only but I shall first get it checked @ a couple of body shops and take quotes from them . I will also try to figure out whether it would be economical to buy the bumper separately and get it painted & installed separately.

I am not much of a handy man so though it was good to know about the scrap yard , I don't think I'm capable of doing it myself .

Plus the senor thing you have mentioned makes sense so I would rather lean towards the new part unless the body shop person finds that only the cover needs to be replaced and it does not have sensors ..in which case I d rather him find an original same color bumper from the scrap yard (if it just a cover) ...

I will check different possibilities and share them before I decide .... it is not an emergent repair , just a dent in the bumper ...

IT ONLY TAKES A FEW EXTRA SECONDS, SO DEVELOP AN INSTINCT AND ADD SAFETY INTO YOUR DAY TO DAY LIVES...

Critical thinking has become a way of life and it will take prominence in your lives and in the future. We may have called it street proofing in the olden days, but in the current days it is considered as logical thinking. please include this in your lives and also try and include this as a process with all who reside under your roof. Also communicate freely with those, people at home

Since you have attached a good priority to this and expressed your views on it, i am sure you are going to get it done. Cost not being the factor, you will get an expert opinion when you seek some one who knows a lot more about it.

If you find it only calls for cosmetic repair and the cost is negligible, then, your mind will be at ease and the continued use gets approved upon seeking such an advice. That does not preclude you asking the person any other question of a doubtful nature that lingers in your mind. That shows your priority and the intelligence behind your thinking.

And if it calls for a stoppage of its use, then you have a reason from him. That is what saves you and your family, though there is inconvenience associated with it.

You can wait for the arrival of the parts and the appropriate time to drop in and get it done.

That is a cautious approach and simple thinking. Now you are on the right track.

Good Luck.

Update :

Last Saturday I showed the car to 2 body shops in the Taber Rd area ( Car Star works Mon to Fri , will contact them also) and here's what they said .

The dent is not that bad and in stead of replacing the bumper they would vaccum pull out the dent and do a painting job ... cost $200/- to $300/- ... If I want to replace the bumper cost $400/- to $500/- ...

Next Saturday I am going to show it to other body shops also in the Confederation Parkway area as recommended by TK .

No hurry to get the job done ... will take a month or two .

Please share your views .

When the Auto Shop puts the car on the hoist and checks the bottom and the Bumper etc., you get to know a lot more details of the underside and the current status. So, you now have a better idea how to proceed with the fixing.

It is a well known fact that in the current days of fixing a car, there are only a few quote a price under 500 bucks. So, get the job done early, when you get a quote 40% of what they flog us for. Then there is a reason to get it done a little earlier too, the stressed areas have a peripheral stress circle, that will slowly drop off the paint and the primer. If winter starts early and a little salt gets in between the paint and the metal, (If it is a metal spot) the rust will get included in the work. So, beat the winter and the problems that might arise with it. We are still in the warm weather. So, it is to your advantage. Also see if you can get it done without a record, it helps if and when you sell it.

Hope this helps.

FH.

Thanks a lot again FH .

These points did not occur to me ... I will act upon it soon after Aug (weekends completely booked )

I thought a record would be created only when reported to the collision center .... When I get it done @ a body shop privately , does the record still get created ?

If yes , how to avoid it ~ requesting the body shop guy I believe :)

Just wished to share an update . If it can help others .

I ran into an auto repair area in Brampton past Saturday .. on Rutherford Rd S between Clarence and Steeles..... Tons of auto body repair shops there at very reasonable prices (perhaps due to the competition)..... I took an inadvertent turn and was surprised to find a dozen shops on the turn and others as well ... talking about 255 & 268 and around Rutherford Rd S.

$300/- for a new after market bumper , painted and installed ... and I checked @ only 2 shops ... though I am still debating to repair my original one in lieu of FH's comments with regards to sensors and all ..
