Hi All,
My parents are Canadian PR and will soon be eligible to apply for Canadian Citizenship.

 Question on mind is :-
As currently they are entitled to Pension in Mumbai (retired teachers from Maharashtra Government)
Once they accept Canadian Citizenship and OCI from India, will they be still entitled for full Pension (Basic + D.A.)?

Any experienced individuals please guide.

Best Regards,
Kas

Yes. No need to tell the Maharashtra gov. about OCI & Canadian citizenship. Also don't close their resident Indian bank account in which they are getting the pension.

Don't bother telling Canada about their Indian pension, otherwise they will cut it from the OAS & GIS they receive over here.

Complete all formalities like PAN card, Aadhaar card as those can be used as ID's in India. Don't show your OCI as an ID in India, plus their Indian passport will be cancelled so obviously they can't show that either.

Every year they just have to submit a certificate showing that they are alive to the Maharashtra gov. to get the pension that's all and the pension will keep coming in.

GOVERNMENT OF MAHARASHTRA PENSIONS..: http://www.rediff.com/money/report/maharashtra-opposes-pension-for-new-govt-employees/20151109.htm

The two items below were newly formulated and needs study. Till such a time, I cannot provide you with a definite view. So, please read the same and get to know a few of the salient features. It will come handy when you start to receive your Govt., Pension there.

With the OCI card, you should also get the same privilege as any other Indian to have an N.R.O. Account. As regards DA, since the year 2006, if the allowance exceeds 50% of the salary, they have merged it with the BASIC salary. So, you will have to see where it currently stands with the recipient. Also HRA was given too, so, if you maintain a residence there, you might be able to collect the same too. All of these are features that needs to get studied from their PENSION Booklet. A cursory look into the same will throw more light on the subject matter. Alternately google into their pension scheme and obtain all or most of the details from their own website.

FH.
You will have to have a minimum of 10 years stay before you can get any basic OAS pension or any GIS here, from the Canadian Government. There are Social Service Agencies that you can contact for the additional relief here and your Parents can also make an application for subsidized low income housing as soon as they can. A talk with some one in the City Hall will hep with all of the paper work.

Hello,

Their citizenship wont affect their Indian pension. There is a gazette notification to that effect (change of nationality). They will continue to receive their pension for so long as they both submit their life certificate.

The others have covered several other aspects above which may be of interest to you. I wont get into those.

Hope this helps.
