Hi PTM, LD, Rahulraj,

Thanks for your words & feedback. All Desis do give it their best shot. I guess everybody is willing to slog it out for around 6 months to 1 year or slightly more but afterwards if you don't get a good opportunity then you start feeling like you were better off in India. Or else you adjust to jobs like security, store, restaurant, transport, etc. I know of people who drive bus, cabs & have adjusted to it.

LD, the idea of starting my business has definitely crossed my mind. Right now though, finance does not permit investing money in business. My wife might start working from Sept. once my son adjusts to school. Then it might get better.

I did have my own business in India for 4 years before I came here. I was into IT-enabled services i.e data-processing, e-books. We did a major project for Mahatma Gandhi's website converting books into HTML format to be put up on http://www.mahatma.org.in." rel="nofollow">LINK Also had a data-entry contract with Gujarat Electricity Board, Baroda, Gujarat. Apart from that, I also had dealership for software companies like Microsoft, Symantec, Corel, etc.

However, I have posted on this website my ad for anti-virus services, router setup, etc. Am trying for other jobs also like dealer sales or corporate sales. I am also exploring possibilities of getting Business process outsourcing contracts from US & Canada & getting work done in India.

I am also exploring Ebay. Are any of you guys into business on Ebay ? Would appreciate feedback.

After coming here, I really appreciate the progress that India has made in technology implementation especially in IT & telecom sector. Most of the new things that are launched here are available immediately in India. Voice over IP (particularly Internet telephony) is something which is getting popular in Canada now, has been available for more than 2 years now in India & cheaper too. There seem to be lot of opportunities in India if you are willing to work hard & smart especially in IT, insurance, telecom, etc.

Infact one customer (white) who goes to countries like China, Phillipines, etc. was telling me that he has seen products in China which are not available in Canada & cheaper too. Ofcourse taxes might be making it costlier here.

yeah, hard work combined with working smart definitely gives rewards sooner or later.

Thanks & regards.

Rajan.

Now you have revealed the real you. That is great. Always remember you were not born to do 9 to 5 jobs. You would be doing greater things.

(THEORY:
The state you are in is known as "crossing the expanse - there is no wind in your sails, you are in doldrums, no shore is in sight. The strategy is to keep working, rowing for some distance, taking advantage of any small breeze and MOST IMPORTANT keeping your spirits up. In time you will be through, winds will change and smoothly take you to your destination.)

Keep it up. You will get a break sooner or later. In any case time is passing and as you get citizenship your international mobility will improve. You maybe able to strike it in good in BPO business/IT enabled services.

I see beginnings of a millionaire. :)

Sorry to be off topic. Would like to know which operators have been offering VOIP in India ‘since the past 2 years’. Is this restricted to specific cities, and are the services available to residential customers?

Crenshaw,

Voice over IP in India is provided by many Internet service providers for International phone calls & is available for all residential & business customers. ISPs like Satyam, BSNL & many local players provide this. It is available in all cities where Internet access is available.

You can call up US & Canada from India for as cheap as Rs.2 per minute.

Rgds.

Rajan.

The VOIP services that have become popular in Canada over the past year or more replace residential lines. In your previous message, you said that those services have been 'available in India since the past 2 years'. Apparently, we're not talking about the same thing.

Where do you get India to Canada calling at Rs 2 per minute. Do post the link here, it certainly is not BSNL's standard international rate for Canada! This information would also be of use to the tons of users on this site that post new threads asking for the 'cheapest calling card from Canada'.
