I got my visa under skilled immigrant catagory and gearing upto to arrive at Toronto sometime during 20 th OCT 2004. As of now I will be moving alone. My wife and kid will join me may be after 6 months in case things go well. Hope so.
Meanwhile, I wrote to some of the contacts wherein you hardly get some positive signals about jobs.
Basically I am Mechanical engineer, aged 37 years, married having a son aged 9 years.
By , profession I am marketing engineer having 14 vyears of experience in markrting Hi tech capital equipments, machines and Industrial products.
I am mentally prepared to take up any SURVIVAL TYPE JOBS in my initial days. But I was quite taken a back as one of my friend reply which i wish to quote here:
QUOTE:
Dear RAO,
Sorry for replying so late
as we discussed on phone, starting jobs are like casual labour type.
U may have to lift weight also, sorry to say i am not discouraging you its a
reality.
after that u can get a licence to drive taxis or truck. Truck license is
also very difficult and time consuming process.
As long as job is concerened , forget about sales or marketing.
chances are like .005 %, rest is upto you if u still want to come its ur
decision.
whatever u will be earning with starting type jobs u can;t afford
independent bath or room, rent for that will be like 600$ and u would be
earning around 1000$ a month.
Crux is that Mr.Rao don't come if u life is going even little bit smooth
over there, it would be a suicidal attempt. I am surviving becoz i am single
and i have tool and die profession certificate of canada.I am alone and have
no responsibility.
Even my real brother wanna come, i stopped him strongly
rest is upto u , feel free to contact me for any help or something
rgs,
atul
UNQUOTE:
Is it a suicidal attempt any marketing engineer to move there ??
I need your valuable suggestions at this crucial juncture.
Mr Rao,
Your friend is true. May I ask where are you located ? If in India, and earning well, think many times if you want to move to Canada for a Marketing Job. You being a "Brownie" are a natural repellant for companies that may want to hire marketing folks.
We have some Members on this forum who are in real estate and mortgage. However, they are self employed ! If you can afford to do that, then you should do it. BUt if you could afford to do that, you wouldnt be moving to Canada in the first place (i.e., to earn money).
So you can do the math. I would urge you to read all the posts here, concerning JObs in Canada..and then decide if you want to move here or not ! But pls, make sure you do not lose your current job, wherever you may be
Itulani Mee Ottawa_Nerd ( I am presuming you are Telugu !)

Well, we understand that it is a very imp. decision esp. when taken around mid thirties. You worry about your career and also what the children would be getting in India vis a vis in Canada. Well, you have to take a pick. Struggle is everywhere- be it India or Canada. Factually, no place is secured the way we want. India was ruled by the right-wing party yesterday. Today it is "controlled" by the Leftists. There is a swing in the policies that affect you and me.Guys with serious cases pending against them enter the Parliament and rule the country- they abscond for days - a blatant disrespect for the judiciary and the law. Would you like your children to inherit this insecurity?? And also repent that an opportunity did knock at your doors for Canada ( pl. go through the economic prospects of Canada on the web) but you did not take it? Tell me, people crib, but factually, how many have gone back just for the reason of not succeeding here in Canada? All in all, there are no beds of roses here or in India- it should be your independent judgement - not taken in a haste, so that you may not repent in future- Afterall its an imp. decision that you shall be making for yourself and your family.

Lead, Kindly Light!!
I fully agree with Bhishma, well said pal.
The purpose of comming to canada should not be to earn pots of money and then go back. If this is the purpose then one should think of a tax-free job in the middle east. In canada one has to pay a lots of taxes, leaving no scope for savings. Look at these taxes as an investment for ur future in canada. You'll struggle innitially but 10 years down the line you'll be glad that you made the correct decission. As Bhishma said, i dont recollect anybody returning back even though they crib all the time. No matter how much india is booming it will always be 10-15 years behind the developed nations. 1.1 billion people and one silver medal makes a profound statement in itself.
These are my views & comments ,the choice is solely yours pal.

There is struggle everywhere and when you come to canada, you have to face it. However my feeling is that once you get comfortable with the culture and life here, you start loving it actually.
Standard of living is high here than compared to canada, and competition is cut-throat so it becomes really tough initially, especially for the not so motivated types.
Ability to communicate effectively is the key. So I will suggest that one should have very good command over english, both written and verbal, before landing here.
mostly, people of the indian origin always feel that jobs like taxi, field work etc. small and we look down upon those who do it, however no one here thinks that way. All jobs are considered at par, and you will find in some cases that a bank manager earns the same as a taxi driver.
Thats a cultural difference, between our thinking and the north american thinking.
