True. Even though I have only heard it, and hence as Judge Judy says, it is heresay.

I do not eat soups in restaurants, as they use chicken or beef stock. Even Campbell soups has beef stock in them. So I use other brands, only trusting on the contents printed on the can, which does not mention any meat products/extracts. But I can just presume, when they mention spices/flavours, that they are extracted from vegetable sources/synthesized.

Else, I would have to stop buying everything except vegetables from grocery stores :D :p

Since I am a vegetarian, I am asked this question again and again "Don't you eat any meat? How do you get any protein? Do you eat fish? Do you eat tofu"?

I wonder as to where in Hinduism (or in Upanishads or Geeta or Ved) does it says that a Brahmin has to practice vegetarianism. I know that Hinduism does not object to eating meat. So when did Brahmins stop eating meat?

Also, where can I find references about ban on beef eating? Is vegetarianism a religious concept, or is it a cultural value imposed upon us?

I know that Buddha died from eating a poisoned pork. Also, Kshatriyas are known to eat meat. Vegetarianism is mostly practiced in Gujarat. Do you think it might be a Jain influence? In that case, do non-Gujarati Brahmins eat meat?

Hi, its shivani: you don't need to be confused. believe in yourself. I'm vegatarian not because of it is written anywhere or someone told me to do so. Not at all, for me, it is an ethical matter, which means, animal have feelings, they don't want to die, they cry, they have tears, and I have seen it with my own eyes slaughtering animals and their tryings to escape . I have felt their love and complaints, but, unfortunately, couldn't do anything for them.

And my second belief is "we reap what we sow, and every action there is reaction, even if someone else kill it , and if I am paying for that dead animal's bones and muscles, I am also sharing the killing process as well and this is my belief, I learned it from my own intellect and mind.

Cheese belongs to which group? Vegetarian or non vegetarian? How the cheese is made of any idea? It is used in variety of pizza’s. So far I was thinking it was made of milk. I read in a book called ‘’Little House in the Big Woods’ that it is made using rennet and rennet is the lining of a young calf’s stomach. Milk and rennet is mixed together to make cheese. Any other ideas? :(

Man, what beautiful discription of process of meat production. But it is said, plants also feel and they react to hurt and abuse. It has been proved that plants placed in an environment reflecting happiness and harmony grew healthy compare to the one kept in noise environment. Plants too feel hurt. So are you going to stop killing plants. It is illogical to be critic to somebody's food.
In slaughter house or poultry farms animal are grown for food similar to plants as done in farms.
For milk, it is some times food of that animal babies. How do you ensure that milk you baught was not food of that animal's babies. Why milk has been given extra importance in hindu religion.

It is made of milk and rennet is used little bit just as we make home made yogurt from little bit of yogurt to fermentate it. There is cheese which doesn't have rennet, you can buy it from Indian Stores. and some canaians keep as well, you have to read it,

Few years before, I attended one workshop in Sheridan College how to make soap, and learned all soaps are nonvegetarian, and surf is made of animal's hair, they bleach hair, that's why looks so white.....

In Canada if you eat outide your food or the cook has surely come in contact with beef or pork so there is no pure vegeterianism if you had meals cooked outside home.

That is flexibility of hinduism :D

Yes, it is correct, someone who is very close to me worked in Mcdonald and burgerking, told me.
