You must not use your God-given body for killing God's creatures, whether they are human, animal or whatever. Yajur Veda Samhita 12.32. FS, 90

One who partakes of human flesh, the flesh of a horse or of another
animal, and deprives others of milk by slaughtering cows, O King, if such
a fiend does not desist by other means, then you should not hesitate to
cut off his head. Rig Veda Samhita, 10.87.16, FS 90

If I follow 10.87.16, FS 90 I am contradicting 12.32.FS, 90 :(
What should I do, leave alone people with their pesonal choice of veg or non-veg.

Thanks Kundan for providing another proof.
now it is clear that Holy scriptures, are against killing animals or eating meat, and we will be responsible for harming animals &eating meat.
I think now anyother proof is not required

Huh?? What proof? How are the Vedas any proof? The vedas also tell us to discriminate based on caste. You think that's right?

Scriptures from some other religion may tell you to eat lots of meat, so what? Should everybody start eating meat?

Let's not be religious loonies about it. If you do not feel like eating meat, your choice should be respected. By the same token, if someone eats meat, you should respect their choice too.

Is that so difficult?

A very good point by maxim. The caste system was a pattern deviced by the Vedas to organize the society, which was the worlds first civilization. However over time, it was misused by people and discrimination resulted. However you cant blame Vedas for that. You've got to blame human nature for that. And you can see that trend in every religion. May it be Sunnis and Sufis in Islam or Catholics and protestants in Christianity. Or even the different castes in Sikhism, a religion based on the foundations of anti-casteism.
There are some human traits for which you cant blame a religion.

Also (to BlueLobster), we are not trying to disrespect the choice of non-vegetarians here. The author wanted mentions of vegetarianism in hinduism. If you know, Hinduism is one of the most tolerant religions. It does not impose. It suggests. And the rest is left to an individuals interpretation and choice. And thats the beauty of this relgion, you dont have to be a religious loonie of you dont want to and that would be perfectly fine. So if this topic does not relate to you, you dont need to defend yourself.

I dont see the reason to blame anyone for anything. every person has a choice regarding their lifestyle including eating habits.... what may be right for one might not be so for another. It really is a matter of personal choice...why are we arguing over wat the scriptures have said?

A lot of ppl have already said this and it is really very simple to understand... respect eachothers' choices. Live and let live.

It was not a caste system established by vedas. It was a system based on KARMA which later on took a bad shape. The later portion of above post rightly says that by the gap of time and mix of so many factors a perfact system becomes imperfact. Sikhism is a burning example of that.

The VaRNA system setablished by vedas was a pure scientific system. No body cam make more groups. Whole humanity can be devided only in four groups. I never studied VEDAS but believe for sure tthat VEDAS never teach to discriminate based on KARMA/Caste. Most of the people never read vedas therefore have lot of ignorance about them.
