Hi,
I apologize if this has been posted before.
Can anyone tell me what their experience, using VOIP(voice over IP) companies like vonage.ca etc. have been?
I did check out their website, but it would be nice to hear individual experiences.

I understand they advertise that we don't have to pay for the adapter. So is the only expense involved, the monthly charge(for the different packages) they offer or is their a 'regular' charge as well as with regular phone service.

also they advertise that we can select numbers with any area code. So being here in Canada can we select US area codes?

thanks

I have been using spectravoice (www.spectravoice.com) for 2 weeks and havent faced any problem yet.
Its a local company based in Scarborough. They don't offer US area codes as yet but I think they will by the end of this month. It is a lil cheaper than Vonage and Primus.

I have a VOIP service with packet8 (www.packet8.net) and have a US number. This gives me unlimited calling anywhere in Canada or US for a flat monthly rate. Voice quality is generally good.

Hi,
Thanks a lot guys. I checked out one of the sites and it seems you need to have a router set up? Does anyone know if a router is required for all VOIP setups or only in certain cases?

thanks

Yes. you will need a router unless you have a VOIP phone which you can plug into the high speed modem.
The setup is just plugging wires, no installing of software or any kind of configuration.

Thanks for the link. I was going thru their website and noticed that they offer a videophone. Are you using the videophone feature? I don't know if anybody has used it but generally how is the quality of the phone

Thanks
Daks

Kabeer, guys any ideas where the best place would be to purchase a router? something similar to "D-Link DI-524 AirPlus G 2.4GHz Wireless Router".
I know staples, best buy, future shop etc. etc. but I don't have a best buy where I am. Any cheaper options/or places that you guys know of?

thanks
