I think MS Spyware is a trial version which stops after 30 days. I use ad-aware, which is a freeware.
I use google toolbar which is effective for killing 90% of popups. However, I still get some pop-ups. I do not know, how they escape the killing.
But now websites have come with new idea, where the ad floats on the webpage. THe biggest culprit being rediff. Once you open the website, the ad takes your entire screen. Most of the time, when you try to click close, you end up clicking on the link. SO you have to wait till the ad is minimized, before reading the page

Deal With Reality or Reality Will Deal With You

Dear Desi # 1,
1. Get rid of IE and get onto Firefox Mozilla. Faisal has already given the link for that.
2. As you said, you are doing live update of your Norton AV, then I assume that you are also running the complete scan of disk. If not, then do it. It will help in detecting what registry keys are corrupted, due to which you get these msgs.
3. Mozilla has an option to block pop-ups. That will take care of your current problems.
In case this concern repeats, feel free to reach us
Regards.

Thanks for the reply.
1. Which browser are you using? If IE or NS, then get rid of those. Get onto Mozilla FireFox, you will love it. Mozilla FireFox has option to switch off pop-ups in its 'Tools' option --- I am using IE
2. Are the pop-ups you are getting have certain pattern? What is that? It is possible that your browser is hijacked! --- Pops were same each time, "Casino Play" or "You have defects on your computer please correct it". -- I always ignored it and shut these off
3. Are you having any anti-virus software on your PC? - Norton Anti Virus (Updated regularly)
4. What kind of sites you visit and download files, play importance in deciding if your PC is affected by Trojans. - I never downloaded any files from any website unless I know of website such as my professional websites.
Also, I downloaded Microsoft Spyware - That is of some help for now atleast.
