I subscribed to Vonage Canada about six month ago. I though it would be good replacement of my phone. However it resulted in the money loss without a single advantage.
First they have so many hidden charges. They charge for activation fees, instrument cost, shipping cost etc. (It costed me about $150, excluding monthly fees)
When we started using it - it was always cutting after a minutes talk. After waiting for a month and trying different setting of my internet connection, I decided to cancle it. When I called they told me to try it free for next 5 months. However it was not working even after that.
Finally I called them to cancel it. They tried to retain me, but I was firm.
And finally they charge me $58 as a cancellation charge!!!
Any body have good/bad experience?

Hurat Honani Murat!
My friend has it but we have had bad experiences with that. Sometimes it wont go to voice mail, there would be lot of disturbance while talking, it would just not connect etc etc.
Why use Vonage when you can use free services like Skype?
Skype is really good and it is free. It almost feels like the person you are talking to is right next to you. It is a great way to talk to relatives in India or any other country.
You can check it out at http:// http://www.skype.com" rel="nofollow">LINK

I had nightmares with comwave. Even for local you have to dial 1 in front and when replying to the number from your display was a disaster.
Vonage has improved but still quite not there and they are expensive.
Skype is only a soft phone. Phones has many uses like local calling unlimited /long distance unlimited and international calling as well as business not just calling India. It is a different service.
My experience with Vonage canada has been anything but good.
I had a bell connection in the beginning. I decide to check out vonage with the intention of making the best use of my high speed internet and thus save money on landline bills.
Here's what happened:
1) Unless you have a very high speed cable like more than 3MBPS, the connection is very shitty!!. The other party can barely hear you and vice versa. while on the vonage phone, if anyone in your household gets on the internet, the connection becomes worse.
2) The 911 will not work at all times. watch out for this. The vonage people have some form of \\\"patched up\\\" 911 solution. But, it does not work at all times.
3) I used to pay 19$/month for a real landline telephone. with vonage internet telephone my monthly bill came to 22$!!. so much for cost savings...
4) Disconnection was a much bigger problem. They charge you a non refundable amount of 90$. You will never get this back and in addition you will have to return their router to a postal address in New jersey, USA within 7 days or you pay a penalty. Now, from when did parcels from canada to US ever reach in 10 days?
overall, it was a mess and i strongly advise people to let others know about your experience with vonage.
