Hi to all the canadian sakhis,
The other day there was a post about some yahoo ladies group, which got me thinking as to why we dont have canadian sakhis more active here? This site does such a great job of guiding all the immigrants to canada, how come women arent so active in doing the same for all the women who migrate here...??Women go through the same teething process of settling in a new country....maybe some dont have to worry about work, maybe some do, taking care of the family in a new environment isnt easy, there are soo many new ways to adopt to...esp those women who will be migrating soon, most important among those i feel are the newly married ones who will be joining their husbands here.... i was one of then not too long ago...and i had my share of apprehensions.I mean isnt it enough that u are just starting on a very new phase of your life (marriage ).... and add to that the fear of a new country, new ways, new surroundings, new ppl?
When my immigration visa was in process ,my husband told me to use the waiting time to aquaint myself as much as i could with this country and its ways, i did try that mainly through the internet, and thru this site aswell.....But experiencing things first hand is a different thing altogether... and talking to fellow women who have been there and done it, helps tremendously in easing the transition.
I know there are a lot of women frequenting canadiandesi and providing useful information in all the sections on this forum, but somehow i feel issues with women seems to be more of a closeted thing.Lets start by sharing our "success stories" in whichever field,be it of immigrating, overcoming initial obstacles, familiaring ourselves here.....
I hope we all can start making this section more helpful and useful and then we wont need another grp "for ladies only" (no offense) elsewhere....we will have all we want right here

Actually there are alot of sites available for women to interact and get advice etc...just take a look at your msn or yahoo groups listings.
I have to admit though that I have not really found these sites that helpful and prefer to keep coming back to CD where I can get both men's and ladies/ perspectives on issues and advice......afterall you don't really see desi websites for just men only....or do you? I have'nt come across any.
Either way, you are right, we can always use a section here to be dedicated to womens' issues and concerns....if the moderators allow that only women are allowed to ask/answer queries...?
But I find on this website, when you ask a question someone will answer whether it be man or woman - does it really matter?

Oh no.. .it doesnt matter who answers, anyone who can provide some useful info or help is always appreciated ..... i was talking about dealing with issues concerning women and who better to help than women who have gone thru it.... But ofcourse men helping out anywhere is always appreciated.
And i am aware that there are many women only sites.....but like you said....i to keep coming back here..... i will admit i did try some sites...but nothing like canadiandesi !! so i thought why not discuss women issues here...esp when we do have a section and we hardly utilise it.

Good point...who better to help with women's issues than women! And of course men's input is valued too...maybe in such a thread we can even educate men further on women's issues...that can't hurt either.

Well ,this is an attempt to get women more active in thie section and like i said in my first post, we can start by discussing our success stories or transitions or experiences in settling down here....
For starters...How did they adapt to the lifestyle here ? or are still adapting? how about raising a family?Backhome we all have a lot of help but its different here.....the trials and tribulations..what about working? It is very different here for those who are migrating to a new country for the first time...
i'd like to hear their perspectives. Language concerns.... ?there are so many topics........but lets start with the ones mentioned above first.
