I wonder whether the Embassy @ Scarborough prepares that kind of stuff .... They do have a great queue lined up there for other products . Though it may not be in the same region as TK has requested .

Guys!
Thanks for the response.
I searched our classifieds and found out 2 very cheap options.

1. Don Mills -Sheperd -> 25 Roti's for $ 6 ( $7 if to be delivered to your door step)

2. Near Sq.-1 -> 50 Roti's for $15 ( Also has parota's for $1 a piece). Can be made custom.Has to be picked up. No Delivery. Last order at 9:30 pm and which can be picked at 11:00 pm.

I will use one of the 2 above.
Anyone needing the above service, can look at our classifieds under catering/Tiffin services.
Why i has asked the above was b'cos i spend 1 1/2 hrs each day just to make 10 roti's. I feel that i can purchase it outside for a price cheaper than what my time is worth for an hour.

Hi TK

Though you didnt ask, I thought i'd offer some unsolicited comments :D

If you practice making roti's long enough, it shouldnt take so long to make 10 rotis. Do you use a large rolling pin (the north american kind) or the small one?

:)

I am saying this based on the assumption that I have that Indian (ie from India) guys are generally not taught to cook? Am i right? wrong?

Isnt it wiser to reach most of the protein requirements via diet instead of supplements? E.g: theres Chicken, fish or for veg...lentils, brown bread/rice etc?

I use protien supplements quite regularly(and feel it works great...especially for the immune system) but most info I've received mention that its a 'supplement'. I'm just wondring if you have some other info I may have not come across.

Jake,

I agree with you that it’s wiser to meet most of our daily protein requirements via diet but I think that for vegetarians it might be a problem. Also it’s more convenient to use whey protein than getting it from fish or meat. I am a vegetarian and so I have to rely on whey protein to meet my daily requirements. My girl friend is Persian and a non-vegetarian. On the weekends she spends around 15 minutes removing the skin/ fat off the lamb meat and hours to cook the meat slowly. Also the smell of the cooked fish or meat is not very pleasant. I use around 150 gm of whey protein daily and I agree with you about its benefits for the immune system. I have worked for product development in pharmaceutical/ biotech industries and I am not a big fan of pharmaceutical drugs, I know what goes in there. But I do take vitamins/ mineral supplements.

Is whey protein better than protein from dietary sources? Since you are so much into fitness I feel that you are the best person on this forum to answer that question:):) Any way here are some links

BV or Biological Value is a measure of the efficient utilisation of the proteins in the body. Whey Protein has a high BV compared to other selected protein sources. http://www.reflex-nutrition.com/glossary/

Whey protein has the highest BV value, rating at 104. Egg protein is only second to whey rating as a 100 with milk proteins being a close third rating as 91. Beef rates as an 80 with soy proteins a distant 74. Bean proteins, due to the fact that are plant-based proteins, only rate a 49 http://bodybuilding.about.com/od/supplementationbasics/a/supplements_2.htm

You know I've asked myself this question? As I understand it, the food supplement industry is so unregulated that I really am not sure of the benefits and/or the claims. I do notice than my immune system is stronger when I do use protein supplements. Thats one reason why I do it.

From what I know not all protein supplements are the same. If its to add to an exercise routine and promote weight loss...I'd go for a whey protein isolate rather than a protein blend. Isolates have a higher BV than blends. It also has less fat and lactose.

And if you are looking to compare the different products

http://www.supplementscanada.com/ratings.htm

btw: I find it cheaper to buy from the latter link. They are reliable too.

p.s: I steer clear of the walmart/costco protien blends....too much fat in those.

Thanks for the links Jake. The food supplement industry is interesting and to be honest its one industry that I would like to set up business. The manufacturing processes are not too difficult and there is a growing market for it and getting Health Canada’s approval is not too difficult.

I use whey protein isolate and I buy it from GNC. I also have 5g of creatine monohydrate, 2 multivitamin tablets, 50mg of zinc gluconate and vitamin B compound tablets daily. Its interesting how these trace elements like zinc, copper, chromium, boron, magnesium are important both for humans as well as plants:) :)
