Thanks to both of you for sharing information about UAE. Please also note that my going to UAE is not set in stone but it subject to me settling some financial commitments here in Canada. I long for the life that UAE offers and am fed up of seeing Canadians all day long. I long to talk with my fellow tamils in my native language and share a joke or 2 in Tamil with them. I have 2 north indians and 1 andhra person in my office but my office does not encourage talking to them at my office time.
I request others who have lived in Dubai to share their experiences and give tips to people who are likely to go to Dubai/UAE from Canada on how to settle comfortably.

TK ,
Than ks for all the wonderful advices u ve been posting from time to time . I d written this 4 days back also but there was a power outage .
1. i think its quite correct for sm1 2 relocate 2 ME after having the Passport.
2. As is known Canadian and Western Passports command 50 - 100 % more sal in the Middle East although yes cost of living is increasing in the UAE .
3. Do not restrict 2 the UAE . Bahrain and Qatar are also nice places .For checking the classifieds in related dailies please search in charcha using ' newspaper middle east job' . This topic has been dscsd b4 .
4. Its MUCH EASIER to get a job in Dubai when u r present there . Jo Haazir woh Vazeer was how a friend had related 2 me abt Dxb opportunities .
5. If u r planning 2 stay in Dubai for a longer stay -- try sharing flats which wud b the cheapest option . Check out Khaleej Times and Gulf News for regular updates .
6. While taking a job in UAE its very important to negotiate and ppl get salaries depending on where they have landed . CAs with 4 yrs exp cud b getting AED 20 K as well as 6K also . So be patient .
Manasvi.

Sidenote :
Iceberg -> In the offices in the Gulf, you are served with refreshments at the table at the office's expense. Besides there are people to empty your garbage, for lifting your computer etc.. You can live like a King/Queen there.
One of my manager in L&T was working in a project in Dubai (this was around 15 years ago) and he told me that in those days , the peon was also entrusted to check if your residential toilet had enough toilet paper and he would replenish it and the soap that you used. He also was entrusted to turn on your a/c at your home 1 hr. before you arrived so that you can be cool in your home once you return from work. Mind you. He was not in IT but just in the profession of Architecture in Dubai.

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
In offices in the UAE or Middle East, do they serve tea / coffee on your table?

What is wrong with going back to India? Have you ever thought about that?
You are amongst your own people, your own culture, own familiar environment. Own luxuries (a peon to serve you tea, a peon to change the toilet paper).
