Mr. TK Antony Saab
I refered all the msgs you received and what u have mentioned on the Canadian Desi. Referring to all these msgs i would like to tell you that there is no good life in UAE, as i am staying here since childhood and seeing day by day changes and increase of prices of each and everything, let it be from house rent or consumer items or let it be taxi fare.
The house rent per year itself yes approx.US$ 10900/- for 1 bedroom flat in Dubai main areas and the rooms also are not that spacious.
I would suggest you that do not come to this place, as the salaries are not that good and the expenses are more than that. Infact there is no saving here.
We have 2 family friends who were in dubai and there have already migrated to Canada, one have just recently migrated 2 months back and he has already got job in 1 1/2 month, also he was informing us that there are lots and lots of job oppurtunities. I believe there is lots of companies in Toronto.
Even me and my husband have already applied for migration and gone thru interview 5 months back, just waiting for reply from Canadian Consulate.
Hope we get thru.
Rgds

Thanks,
Yes I am thinking to keep my family in Canada and work myself in these new locations for next 3 to 5 years. What are the other options? Please advice.
Just want to ask what is the meaning of being a de facto permanent resident?
How and when I will get the Canadian citizenship by working on these new locations ? Please advice.

Hi
Do you have garage sales & IKEA stores in UAE?
Meghal,
There are IKEA stores in the UAE as well as even in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. There are IKEA Restaurants within the IKEA stores in the gulf, but i donot know if they offer a SR1/ DHS 1 Value meal as done in Canada. But who cares, there are more tasty broasted meats/ arabian meat delicacy out there. Swarma is also very good.
For Garage sales, i guess there will be a central market where all the second hand goods will be sold. You can buy all you want there. Unfortunely, there will not be small kids selling lemonade and cookies for money.
Why Meghal, Do you also want to move to the UAE ?
TK A
Main note : CAJ, Thank you for your advise. To me , things are not at all going well in Canada and hence i was thinking of moving to the UAE. I will keep your points in mind before (and if) i fly out. OTOH, I still find many of my friends/ relatives content and happy in the gulf. Many of my friends with poor qualifications and communication skills are doing quite well as technical people in the UAE. I think that i will have to find out personally the quality of life, professional jobs availabe and the salary given in the UAE. Just a personal example. One of our relatives (a young CA executive) from a town went to the UAE and found a 5000 Dirham a month job in a week and a 8000 Dirham a month job in 2 weeks which includes an annual paid vacation to India.
Sidenote : DT. Saw your post below. Oh! Poor me. How naive i was to assume what i assumed.
Sidenote 2 : Mails4Sagar-> Saw your post in the next page. What is ARIDO? I will google and try to look into it. Thanks for the info..
Later addition : I found that ARIDO was the interior design association of Ontario. The jobs posted there are for members only. Could you copy and send it to me by e-mail? Thanks for all the help yarr!!

I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible.
But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.
Hello TK saab ,
well this is just my 2nd post i do read all the posts on this fourm .
i am currently lving in dubai and have been here for 15 years and brought up here as well. I have friends in canada so i know of this forum and being a desi (not CD but DD ) decided to join this forum .
This post is in response to your queries of dubai.
Now pls understand that grass always seems greener on the other side .
Dubai is good , probably life is better than in Canada , but there you are a citizen .. here you are a expat ... and even my family been here for 25 years we are still expats renewingvisas 3 years ... and being discriminated due to religion , nationality etc ... how ever it is slight discrimination not much .
yes there are lot of indians here ... many from south .... but all depends on whom you get along with ... here the social circle is not like there .... there is no fourm of this sort ... nor big gatherings ....or groups ... even those there are private or meant for the big shots ... the picture seems rosy ... but it may not be what you feel ... and pls forget that peon thing ... its impossible .. and if you want to hire domestic help monthly will cost you 200 us$ for 4 hrs work , this may seem cheap but compared to the salary you will earn it will be expensive ...
i read you are an architect etc ... and agree due to construction boom there is demand for architect .. but with all due respect to you sir , there is reay avaliablity of fresh young kids and people with exp with architect degrees from india etc ... western passport holders are preferred yes but imagine in your situation you have been out of your field for 4 yrs ... you might have lost touch ... so even if you get it will be and entrance level job.. which might not pay much... until you end up with a big MNC or a nice company chances are you will make max up to 2000us$ a month this is big salary here .
it is extremely hard to get us$5000 you need gulf exp and big degrees, Big experience and big time achievements and still your job will be based on performance ...Job security is very low and no place where you can sue your employer for any thing yes the labor dept ight help you in resolving your issue but thats just it (this concept of litigation is un-known here )
if the company pays for your accomdation which is a 50-50 chance its ok ... which they might reduce from salary some times ( partly).. now living with a family in dubai good area a studio flat (apt) 500 sqft is 9500ud$ a year and incerasing and if you work in dubai and stay in ajman where you would get a 2 bed apt 1100sqft for the same price its 45km away and will take 1 to 1.5 hrs daily each way cause rush hour .. then car is another thing ... parking is damn expensive ... petrol is increased to almost double compared to couple of years back ( still cheaper than canada ).
And the cheap accomdation .. forget it ... let me tell you a scenario .. here people who do labour jobs as you call it there that is a supermarket attendant or cashier or a sales man in a store etc do not get more than 700us$ a month salary .. this is max in these catoegeries ... if you get big company max 850 limit... - these people stay in a group of 6 to 7 people in one ROOM 150 to 250 sqft share the same bathroom , sleep on bunk beds and still spend us$ 200 on mothly living rents and food where they eat at mess the same food almost every day two times .Then the other exp like petty expenses grocery etc is above this basic cost which i have mentioned , is Bare Minimum. These jobs keeping a family here is impossible .. 90% of these jobs people have their families ( only Wife and Kids Forget parents relatives etc) in their home countries .
Its getting expensive and nationalization is taking over .... every big company has quotas to hire nationals ... and all HR jobs are compulsory nationalized and by next year according to a report all secreterial jobs should go to nationals which is cutting 25000 jobs for expats ... this is a big figure where the total population for uae is probably less that one big indian city..
When you look at the jobs avaliable postings in papers and websites pls dont forget to look for jobs wanted section as well this will give you a clear idea ..
I by no means am trying to discourage you but just informing you about the real situation ... life is not easy ... labour jobs as i mentioned above , people work 12 t o14 hrs ... no over time ... yes labor laws are there but seldomly followed .. cause here all things work by connection.
One good thing is very less almost none crime and the biggest attraction for all no TAX but imagine the indirect tax you pay ... a lot of expenses are there which cannot be noted and not be experienced without coming here ..
Think of starting a business (small shop etc ) its very very tough sir ... lisence procedures are not only lenghty expensive ... find a sopnsor who will virtually have 51% share of ur business without contributing anything and charging you to sponsor you ...and sky rocketing rents .. its not so simple . To live here you should have a constant good paying job or a lot of money ... trust me on this one ... and getting jobs is not easy my friend ...
I have s business and my family has been here for 25 yrs so its a routine but i still fell all this .
These are my views i would suggest you to take a holiday and come to duai for some days and see life as a resident not a tourist then you will get the clear picture .
One good thing indian culture is present as majority of population is indian and pakistani expats but it is rapidly getting westernised .
And yes there are Ikea stores almost all Big Brands .. best roads .. every thing you can find in america or canada you can find in UAE ,malls are probably better than there ( i studied in Los angeles so can say) , just at the same cost ... but less income ... I am happy here no complaints but i have been here for a long time and i have a business this should be considered .
Thank you TK saab for all your posts i regularly view them and they are enlighting .
I hope my posts gives you a clear idea and help you decide.
